For those of you toying with this one, I found this on the Yahoo board. Seems like a logical notion distinguishing from the bookmark retained in flash memory versus being written to the hard disk and the author appears to have found a workaround. ..........
"One other caveat with the iPod bookmarking is that it will revert to
the previous
bookmark if it goes into "Deep Sleep" mode (which is triggered by being unused
for about 36 hours). This bites me on the weekends sometimes: I listen to my
audio book on my Friday commute home and then turn the iPod off. On Monday
the audio book starts at the same place it started on Friday (not
ended). This is
a known bug that has not been fixed yet. The work-around that works for me
is to select a different file than the audio book before turning it
off, then on Monday
select the audio book. It seems to not write the bookmark to disk, only save it
in memory, until a different file is selected"
