Way to group 'multiple artists' albums?

iTunes splits all my "multiple artists albums" into multiple "multiple artists albums". The resultant albums contain only one song as long as the artist is unique to the album. Is this some sort of flaw?

The setting "Group compilations" doesn't seem to do anything, so I don't know whether this setting was designed to solve this problem.....

Compilations should solve that for you, but you have to tag the song files themselves as "Part of a Compilation" (this setting can be found in the properties of each file, accessed by selecting one or more files and using File->Get Info.

The other option is to set an "Album Artist" for the tracks. If you have an album with featured artists (ie, one "main" artist, but several guest or featured artists), this might be the better way to handle it. Just list the main album artist in the 'Album Artist" field for each track, and they should group together on that basis.

If it's truly a "various artists" type of album, then you're better off using the "Part of a Compilation" feature to group them together.
