Big Files, Slow Performance

ReisBullet said:
Joeblake88, yea i've been getting kinda annoyed by the delay in the 5G I get sometimes cuz I'm used to my 4G B&W which is very responsive. It seems whenever I have artwork in a song, it takes longer to transition to the Now Playing screen once I have selected it. Does this delay occur in any ipod with a color screen? Also when hitting the center button, it feels like all the transitions to Scrubber, Rating... are slow. DOes this occur with anyone else?
Well, my B&W iPod was not faster than my current 5 g. But: All iPods with cover display get slower, the bigger the cover graphics are. So keep an eye on the size of these graphics. More than 300x300 makes no sense...

I have a major problem..I played a video, nothing happend I had a black screen for a while I fast forwarded and saw a few shots of the video, then it took me to the video menu, then it played the video and is stuck at 00:00 on a black screen, its frozen and nothing will unfreeze it. I ve held down the ff button, I ve held the circle and play/pause buttons and nothings happend, I ve even pluged it into my computer thinking maybe that when pluged in it would wake it up and nothing has happend?!! I am worried!!!

Just reset the iPod. Maybe the video uses a wrong codec and/or resolution.

Really? o_O
I can fast forward any amount and my screen doesnt go all crazy.

Did you actually press the >>| button, or did you use the center button and then scroll wheel? I use the scroll wheel and have no problems

And also, why dont you guys just hit the 'remember playback position'

This isn't a matter of forwarding by the wrong method. I was having this problem yesterday and am not today. Today, I can either FFWD by pressing and holding down FFWD or I can press the center key and scroll around the touch pad and it works fine. I can fwd as much or as little or as soon or as late in the show as I want with no problem. But yesterday, I couldn't ffwd 5 min. into the show, or anywhere else, for even one second without it going back to the Menu.

I will have to check that setting in iTunes for remember last playback position. Just didn't realize that was there, but either way, the FFWD should work every time. I've reported it as a bug to the link earlier in this thread. Thanks for posting that, whoever that was. ;)

Maybe it isn't necessery to say anymore but the option with clicking the center and scrolling to the point you want to go in a video works best (and every time, after months of frustration by using the next button)

now are u guys pushing the arrows to fast forward?

I think what you have to do is push the centre circl button, and then scroll through the time like u were changing the star rating. If u press the button with the arrows i think it tries to skip to the next video, which may explain why ur screen goes black and then to the menu.

it goes black to load the next vid, but im guessing if u hold the arrow down it skips through all ur vids and to the end of ur last vid, and then brings you back to the menu.

Hope that helps.

If i misunderstood. sorry. You should contact apple.

Oh wow, thanks for that info! I didn't realize you could fast forward like that. I was always holding down the button. But yeah, it freezes after a while when I fast forward with the right button, although it never seemed right to fast forward like that in the first place when you're watching a movie or so.

Re: Instantly go back to position left off at!!!

It sounds like to me most of you guys are simply trying to get back to the position in the movie where you left off at, by fast forwarding the video. If that is all you want you can turn on this option in iTunes called "Remember Playback Position".

Do a get info on the video you want in iTunes and then click on the "Options" tab, then check the check box for "Remember Playback Position". Now sync you iPod and the next time you watch your videos on the ipod it will start up right where you left off at. This is really handy if you get interupted while you are watching 2 hour long movies.
I don't seem to find this feature on itunes 6.0.4.2 can you help. This would be great if it could get it to work.

Thanks

Hmm...I don't fast forward much, so I can't say I have ever encountered a problem like the ones mentioned in this topic.

HOWEVER...

Is this a bug?: Whenever one of my videos is at it's end (with maybe like 3 seconds left) my iPod always seems to like...reset itself after a video is done playing...After a video is done, instead of going to the next vid in the list, the iPod screen shows that black screen with the Apple logo on it and then goes back to the main menu? Is that normal?

For me it seems to depend on what i used to put the video on there. Is this something you ripped yourself or did you buy it from Itunes?
