Using either (1) Add to Last Playlist or (2) Add to Playlist doesn't work

I'm not sure why using either (1) Add to Last Playlist or (2) Add to Playlist doesn't work in my itunes 12.12.2.2.

My procedure:
-- I right-click on a song in Songs
-- I select Add to Last Playlist or Add to Playlist.
-- I click on the Playlist under Music Playlists
-- "No items" appears under the playlist in the area to the right of the Library/Playlists pane

Any suggestion/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Do you have existing playlists? Or are you not using the arrow to the right of Add to Playlist?

These options are intended to modify existing playlists or create a new one. When you click on Add to Playlist, there should be an arrow to the right of it. The top item in that is New Playlist, under it should be a list of playlists you can add to.

If you use the New Playlist option it will create a new playlist with the track in it named <Artist> - <Album> where the things in the <> are replaced with the Artist an Album from the first track added to the playlist. You can rename it however you like.

If you choose an existing playlist, then the song will be added to the playlist.

The Add to Last Playlist will add the song to the last playlist you added the previous song to, and will have the name of the playlist after the word Playlist.
