Update adds system data and now ipad has less memory

Is this normal? My ipad had 17GB left and after the update i now have 9GB left. That’s because before the update i had 0 system data after the update i now have 4.43. Is this normal? I think im founding how the memory fluctuates one update left me with memory storage, the other left me with less memory storage. Is this what updates do? Bit still the maths not exactly right so the other stuff it loaded on is taking space but there are no new icons.

I just realized. Im sorry for the confusion. But it seems that one update i have more memory than before…then a newer update, less. And before i had 0 System Data..now its 4GB and i even have more things thats taking up at least 4 more GB.

Some updates erase the logs and cache, reducing the system data use to zero. Others retain the data leaving it around the 5 GB mark. It fluctuates.

Well, it certainly fluctuates from update to update, i never know what im gonna get. An ipad update is like a box of chocolates…
