Is there any way to opt out of the screen with the time/battery level that comes up after a song's been playing for a while? I like to glance down to see what song's up, to see the album art or how much longer I've got on a song or audiobook. Here I've got this beautiful color screen, album art and data, but after a few minutes, I've got a bland black and white announcement of the time with a giant graphic of a battery--UGH!

Exactly what is the power saving screen for? isn't it displaying the same number of pixels and such as the screen showing the song title, time, album art etc? or does the new nano not display time in the upper screen as the old one did?

I don't get how this different screen can possibly save power unless the nano has to have the backlight on in torder to show the song name in which case it is a very stupid design as the old nano and ipod design worked just fine.

It's a mystery to me too but my Nokia phone also calls its equivalent mode a power saving mode. I wonder if it's a lower resolution display mode which reduces the number of lines on the screen which have to be refreshed. I'm probably way out in left field.

that is what I was guessing it would have to be. that sounds very annoying though. I would be mad if my 2G nano did not show me the song I am listening to when I looked at it. perhaps apple will fix this in a new firmware allowing you to choose if you want power saving mode on and also say the estimated battery life with it off.

Lets say the new nano was fully charged, you planned on a 7 hour listening session, if you were to keep the backlight on the entire 7 hours, would the battery last for that amount of time?

My guess is probably not. And even if it did, in the grand scheme of things, you'd be eating away at the total usable life of your battery faster than you would be otherwise.

All you have to do is touch the wheel to bring back the Now Playing screen. You don't have to click it. Just touch it.

Call me nuts but I like the Time screen. I use it to check the time when I'm exercising at night. I can see it fine whenever I pass near a street light. But I agree it would be nice if Apple added an option to disable the Time screen. It can be disabled on my Nokia phone.

who said anything abouy keeping the backlight on all the time? I like how my old nano turns it off and if I want to check the song i am listening to or the time I don't have to turn the backlight on and waste extra power in doing so.
