Not for nothin', but...does update only work if your iPod Options are set to NOT "Manually manage..."? Whenever I run this:
Code:
tell application "iTunes"
set iSource to some source whose kind is iPod
	update iSource
end tell
I get this:
Code:
"iTunes got an error: source id 6353 doesn't understand the update message."
I have iPod Opts set to manually manage. I'm also using v1.4 software on a 5GB Gen2, so maybe update doesn't work here? (Doubt it)

Perhaps it is better to run a script along these lines:
Code:
tell application "iTunes"
set iSource to some source whose kind is iPod
	try
		update iSource
	on error
-- display dialog "Could not update iPod."
	end try
end tell
Whadaya think? TIA.

Your script works for me with AutoUpdate on.

I noticed that when I turned off AutoUpdate, the Update menu item grayed out, so it would make sense that you couldn't access the function from a script either.
