Hi All,

I subscribe to iTunes match and as such mu iTunes/Apple music library is stored in the cloud.

I have recently purchase a small Android tablet from Lenovo and would like to be able to access my library on it for streaming to devices etc.

I assume that this is possible?

Ok, so far I have:

  1. Installed the Apple Music App on my android tablet
  2. Signed in with my Apple ID
  3. Enabled ‘sync; to devices in the preferences section of Apple Music on my mac that has the same apple id.
My library is pretty big, 250 GB plus.

When I now open music app on tablet and click on ‘Library’ I see the screen shot as below and cannot see any of my library?

Iv tried exiting the APP etc but nothing.

I have a very slow internet connection at home, but thought after a few hours I should be seeing my library? (I don’t plan to download it all to tablet, simply stream from the cloud).

Appreciate any help/advice on fixing same

Best

Simon.

iTunes Match (iCloud Music Library) is not Apple Music Service they are 2 different services.

iTunes Match has:
  • Your purchased music
  • Matched low quality songs upgraded to 256 kbps
  • Uploaded unmatched tracks
  • All DRM free
  • Can be streamed or downloaded.
  • 25,000 track limit (including purchased tracks)
Apple Music Service has:
  • Streaming tracks from Apple's collection
  • 100,000 track limit on uploaded and matched tracks.
  • DRM on ALL tracks (though I am seeing reports that if you have both subscriptions, the tracks may not have DRM)
  • Devices that can't support the DRM cannot be used for streaming.
  • Streaming only, no downloads, no iPods, no offline music (I am seeing some conflicting information here, it may be possible to download to iPhone for offline playback, no iPod support is confirmed though)
The device in the picture above is looking for an Apple Music Service subscription, and you don't have one.
Unfortunately there is no app on Android that can access iTunes Match, you'll need to have the Apple Music Service subscription to get this to work.

If you do choose to buy Apple Music Service subscription, you should do the following before starting it:
  • In iTunes, ensure that every song is downloaded from the iCloud Music Library locally.
    • Either no tracks have the cloud symbol next to it, or only duplicate tracks one with and one without the cloud symbol.
      • If you have duplicate tracks, you may want to replace the local copy with the iCloud Music Library copy to upgrade the audio and remove the DRM.
    • Make a full backup of all the music in your iTunes Library.
    • Ensure the iTunes Library file is in that backup as well.
      • This backup is what you will need to restore your music collection if you leave Apple Music Service.
  • Store or give away all iPods.
Once you start Apple Music, your library on your iPhones and iTunes should be replaced with the Apple Music library, and you can start streaming it to that Android tablet too.

Thank you for the help above it it is very much appreciated. What about tracks that I have uploaded that are not in the Apple Music library, will they also be available to stream?
I take it if I changed to a Apple tablet o wouldn’t need to do this as I could simply use my match account?
Thanks
Simon.

Tracks you have uploaded from your collection should be able to be streamed with either iTunes Match or Apple Music Service or both services.

An iPad can use your existing iTunes Match service like your iPhone does today.

Hi

If i have Apple music successfully installed on my Android Tablet, can it be controlled from Music on my iPhone providing they are logged in as the same account?
I know if it was 2 x IOS devices, one would likely follow the other but i'm just wondering does the same work between iPhone and android?

Or alternatively is there such a thing as a 'mirror' app that can be installed on the Android tablet to mirror solely what is on the Music App on the iPhone.

Thanks for your continued help on the attached and sorry for asking so many questions, i just want to be sure i get the right solution all round.

Really appreciate it

Simon.

The music apps are completely separate between devices. I don't believe they can control each other. Just like the iPhone can't control the music on an iPad.

The 2 iOS device behavior you are referring to is the continuation of a playlist that automatically removes tracks that have already been played (smart playlist). That can be accomplished a couple ways:
  • If the same playlist were on an iOS device, synced to iTunes and a second iOS device was synced to iTunes with the same playlist. (No Android support)
  • If the playlist was in the cloud, and switched devices, the playlist is then continued on the second device (Android support is likely)
Unfortunately you can't handoff the Music playlist position between any devices. This can't work with Android as it requires AirPlay support.
If you want a smart playlist in Apple Music, you need to create it with iTunes or get some special apps that enable this feature.

I would doubt there is any app that can mirror your iPhone on Android, I can't even find an app to mirror my iPhone on my iPad. If there was an AirPlay receiver app for Android, then maybe it could be a receiver for the sound. Not sure why this would be helpful at all.
