I recently had to restore my 5th gen touch. Since then ive had nothing but problems. As part of the restore I updated to the latest iTunes and os on the device. As a result songs that had been on there for years are unable to synch. They have a light coloured dotted circle next to them. I also get a message telling me to many files are currently open. PLEASE HELP!! I miss my music!

Dotted circle songs are typically songs that were streamed to the device over a network connection, or failed WiFi sync tracks.

I have spent a bit of time trying to get rid of them, as they use space, and are not accessible from the Music app, unless you are streaming your purchased playlist.

Here are the findings I have posted over the years:
http://forums.ilounge.com/itunes-related-mac-pc-applications/281618-dotted-grey-circle.html
http://forums.ilounge.com/itunes-related-mac-pc-applications/282362-iphone-syncing-saga-2.html (DFU restore did remove them)
http://forums.ilounge.com/iphone/282738-iphone-itunes-ios-bugs-bugging-me.html (response to 9 &10)
http://forums.ilounge.com/ipod-touch/280393-circles-squares.html (WIFI sync causing a lot of issues, cable resolves)

If you are trying to sync these files from your iTunes you need to be sure they exist first.
Play some of these dotted circle tracks in iTunes on your computer. If they have error messages you need to fix that first.

You can also always restore again if you think the restore failed.

Let me know if they play in iTunes, and we'll go from there.
