I know you can change song ratings on the new ipod.. but do they change in itunes now - when I connect it to sync with the computer?

Ive still use my 2G while my 5G is in the post! Does anyone know if iTunes syncs your ratings from your ipod?

And if now - this feature is utterly useless.... why do i need to rate my songs if it doesnt effect my whole library when i go home?

Yes, they change, and are updated whenever you sync.

One of the first things I tested out ;)

I am kind of curious what happens when you rate a song in your iPod, and in iTunes. Which one trumps the other?

Now.. if only iTunes would let me see a list of all the songs that don't have lyrics yet so I can find and add them without having to find out the hard way :(

As long as you are on autosync.

The song with the most recent "last played date" trumps the other, at least that was what my tests showed.

It should also be brought up that if you make changes to tags (ratings and playcount exempt) in iTunes the entire file trumps the iPod on the next sync, so always sync your iPod to get any changes to iTunes before you do any file editing in iTunes.
