    Signatures

In order to be able to have a signature, users must have been a member for 7 days and have accumulated 10 posts.

    Avatars

Avatars are reserved for only the most senior of iLounge forum members. Users will not be able to use an avatar until they have been a member for a minimum of one year, and accumulated 1,500 posts. This is considered the Veteran Lounger level of membership.

    A note on post whoring...

We welcome and encourage our members to make valuable and useful contributions to the iLounge forums, and to have fun, socialize, and actively participate in discussions on the forums. However, as per the Forum Policy, we will not tolerate excessive and unnecessary posting. Posting inane and pointless messages solely to increase one's post count in the hopes of reaching a higher membership level will be dealt with by the forum staff. Unnecessary posts may be subject to removal, and persisting in this behaviour will result in post counts being reduced and any further action being taken as deemed necessary.

  • With the number of recent threads from brand new users that we have observed in our Classifieds forum selling goods under questionable circumstances, we have instituted a new policy restricting new members of iLounge from posting new threads in the Classifieds forum until they have reached "Regular Member" status.

New users become Regular Members once they have made 10 posts and been a member of the iLounge Forums for at least 7 days. Prior to this time, members may still read the Classifieds forum, and even respond to existing threads for items being sold by other members, but they may not create new threads advertising their own items for sale.

This will hopefully help to protect our user community by discouraging fraudulent users from signing up and posting classified ads without having at least a very basic level of established membership in our forums.

Obviously all users should still exercise due diligence when making use of our classifieds forums, but we hope that this restriction will help to decrease the number of blatantly fraudulent ads that we have been seeing in recent weeks.

Please be sure to review our Classified Forum Policy for more information.

Ok, this is stupid... nearly every topic in the each "general" iPod forum is about iPod problems (and I'd guess no amount of stickies will make a difference here... n00bs are n00bs). So why not merge the problem and general forums so as to avoid the confusion.

Just an idea...

It has become a bit mixed up of late - the idea was to keep all problem related posts in the right forum - seems like they are being 'misposted' into the General forums.

Time for a tidy up....

A simplification/consolidation of the layout I think would help. It gets a little confusing and everyone posts in the general forum anyway.

Looks like the forum cleanup is coming along nicely... or not :p

Really, you should think about consolidating the two catagories, it willl save a whole pile of work in the long run, as new members are more than likely ALWAYS going to post in the first forum they find.

Tom,
If people just thought a little bit before they posted then we wouldn't have to go around moving posts. You can bet that no matter what we did they would just post where they first happen to look. It is a problem any forum suffers from - people being lazy and not thinking or reading the forum guidelines.
We are moving recent posts which should be in Problems and Solutions - and as far as I believe we are not looking at combining the General iPod (Colour) and iPod (B&W) and Problems & Solutions iPod (Colour) & (B&W) - older posts if they have dropped down and off first the page can stay where they are.

I know... life would be so much simpler if people spent 5 seconds longer making sure they posted in the right place.

That's one solution to the problem, but it requires a lot of work in the long run, as the problem isn't going to go away. I was just posting a different solution to the same problem, that could be seen as an instant fix. But if you and the rest of the mod team are willing to put in the effort to keep things clean then keeping the forums seperate is probably better in the long run.

Why don't you make the 'Problems And Solutions' forums sub-forums of the main iPod forums?
regardless of how we structure it, people will still post in the wrong forums - tom's initial suggestion gets rid of that problem, but means not being able to distinguish the problems from the not-problems, and imho that's worse.

btw i see you've made it to ATAU :)
