Oh, and I forgot all about Richard Cheese. He's a lounge cover artist, so anything he does is usually radically different from the original.

Funny stuff.

How long have the White Stripes been around? Do they really deserve their own tribute album yet?
These aren't so much "tribute" albums as they are just string/classical "renditions" of popular modern music. There are literally dozens of these albums... take a look for String Quartet on Amazon.

Some of the stuff is pretty cool. I have the Tool "tribute" album...

TV on the Radio's cover of Pixies' 'Mr Grieves' (acapella and mournful)
Optiganally Yours' cover of The Human League's 'Empire State Human' (impossible to describe)

I'm surprised someone hasn't mentioned the Gary Jules version of 'Mad World.' Did I miss it?

Since I'll be seeing them in a couple of days, I pulled out Social Distortion's self titled album. I had forgotten all about their cover of 'Ring of Fire' by the man in black, Johnny Cash.

Good stuff. Not exceptionally wild, unless you find punk covers of 'country' to be radical.

The White Stripes haven't been popular very long, but they've been around for a while....

Red Hot Chili Peppers did a cover of Jimi Hendrix's "Fire".

A guy named Derek Kurth did a cover of Baby Got Back that is really funny. Acoustic, too. I've got the mp3 if you want it, email me.
