I know I've seen this solution somewhere, one of the fine official moderators in fact I believe.  But I can't find the answer...

Normally, my iPod is set for auto-synch with iTunes with Disk usage also enabled.  But I need, just this one time, to connect the iPod strictly as a disk - no iTunes auto-synch.  Is there a magic "keystroke" to block iTunes while I connect the iPod and use it as a disk for a few minutes?

Here is a thread that discusses some of the suggested options to bypass auto-syncing. As you read through the thread, it will become evident that none of the options work for everyone. The Control+Shift method I suggested in the thread works for me every time. Hopefully, one of them will work for you.

My favorite is to open a menu (like prefrences in itunes so that it wont run anything in itunes and teh drive should get mounted then.
