My 1G 32gb iPod touch doesn't have a volume control or output any sound when docked in my speakers. The volume control doesn't show when plugged in for syncing either, but it does when I also plug in headphones. I get sound through headphones, too, but it's not always optimal to use them. Any thoughts on whether this is a hardware or firmware issue? I'm on my way out the door and will get some canned air while I'm out to see if it helps to blow out the headphone jack (which is brand new, BTW).

Hope someone has some good ideas! Thanks!

It seems to be by design. Since it the 1st Generation iPod Touch doesn't have built-in speakers, in order for you to change volume, you will need to plug in the headphones. Other than that, you will need to control the volume from your speakers or plug the headphone in to adjust the volume there.
