Hello there can you help please?

My iPod Classic has over 4000 songs.

I have set up iTunes on a new laptop, so the itunes library is completely empty.

What are the steps I need to take to transfer and copy the songs quickly and safely from the iPod to the new library

To be honest am slightly cautious about synching in case I lose everything. Any advice is most welcome.

Many thanks
Lez

Of course the library is empty.

I am pretty sure we did this before, and we really don't want to do all that work again.

The easiest way is to migrate the library from the old laptop to the new one. You would need to copy the iTunes folder from the old laptop to the new laptop. Do you have a technical person to help with that? They would need a USB drive to copy it from the old laptop and put it on the new laptop. Or configure the two laptops to share the folders across a network.

You could read through all the old messages to get the steps to do it the hard way. https://forums.ilounge.com/threads/new-unwanted-version-of-itunes.288434/post-1457881 are the steps, the whole thread as a lot of information: https://forums.ilounge.com/threads/new-unwanted-version-of-itunes.288434

Thanks for your prompt reply although from your tone I feel like a child being scolded. We're not all as tech savy as you are and perhaps you could bear that in mind. Yes I DID ask this question before and in my reply was appreciative of your time and effort. But I will sort it myself and won't bother you again.

It is not that I am not willing to help, the tone was interpreted wrong.

I was pointing out the effort already spent on this, so the same steps could be followed, but I would recommend using the USB drive to copy the iTunes folder from the old laptop to the new laptop as all the work that was completed last time would not need to be repeated.

That process is fairly straight forward:
  1. Copy the iTunes folder (in the users Music folder) from the old laptop to the USB drive.
  2. Move the USB drive to the new laptop.
  3. Copy the iTunes folder from the USB drive to the users Music folder.
  4. Hold SHIFT key and start iTunes, select the iTunes Library from the Music\iTunes folder.
  5. Play a track to test the copy worked.
    1. If the user name is different between old and new laptop, there may be a Locate prompt since the track cannot be found.
    2. Click the Locate button
    3. Navigate to the track (Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\<Artist>\<Album>\<SongName>.<ext>
    4. Click OK
    5. On the prompt to update the entire library, click Yes.
Hopefully this list is easier to follow than the old discussion getting the files off of the iPod.
