It probably will be from Toshiba, I can't think of other manufacturers of the same drive. The screens on the devices look painted on...like someone actually took a marker and drew them in.

Size -> Archos wins
Weight -> Archos wins
LCD -> Archos wins
File support -> Archos wins
Design -> iPod wins
Interface -> iPod wins
Capacity -> iPod wins
Price -> iPod WINS BY FAR

The worst part is those buttons - they're tiny, and I can't even imagine scrolling through the 100's of albums I have with that thumb pad.

Why is it that only Sony and Apple can design good-looking products?

"LCD: 2,5 ", large 160 x 160 px 16-greyscale LCD"

They're not colour screens, just the pictures are - how strange!
Well, I'm sure it's a simulated screen for one thing. And also, the picture is not exactly color, more like monchrome blue. Maybe they're trying to show what it looks like with backlight? Anyway, 2.5" 160x160 greyscale is a LOT better than the iPod.

The 220 has a greyscale screen:

"LCD: 2,5", large 160 x 160 px 16-greyscale LCD"

and 500 Euro is $564

Then why, does this Archos player, which costs more than the iPod look #### ugly compared to the iPod?
Compare what the archos can do to the ipod.

The archos isn't competing DIRECTLY against the ipod it does sh.it loads more then the ipod. Doesn't just play music.

Also it's size is pretty impressive for what it can do. Yes it is blocky and a little chunky (cue zen) but yeh nice screen etc so yeh just thought i'd make that point.

Apple is exactly like BMW. Technologically speaking it will take the other companies a few years to get up to par with the iPod.

And stop eating French Fries (Chips in UK speak)...

Seriously, I think this device is overpriced & ugly. It's the thin-ness of the iPod that I like, becuase it doesnt take up much depth in a pocket. This Archos (which so reminds me of Argos) looks quite deep, so although it's front view is smaller, I would much prefer (size-wise) to have an iPod in my pocket.
