• CLASSIFIED FORUM POLICY Updated May 26th, 2010

The Classifieds forum is provided by iLounge as a free 'marketplace' to buy, sell or trade Apple media devices (iPods/iPhones/iPads/tvs) or related accessories.

It is not to be used for the sale of products by or to commercial entities, as defined by the commercial forum policy found here.

    Permitted Items

    • iPods
    • iPhones
    • iPads
    • Apple TVs and related accessories
    • iPod, iPhone and iPad accessories, such as cables, cases, speakers, headphones, docks, etc.
    • Original CDs or other original recorded music formats.

Note that when listing an iPhone for sale, the seller must clearly indicate whether or not the iPhone is locked to a particular carrier, and if so which carrier the iPhone is for.

    Prohibited Items

    • Computer software of any kind.
    • Computer equipment such as laptops, desktop computers, monitors, or other peripherals that are not iPod related
    • Non-iPod handheld devices such as personal digital assistants (PDAs), other MP3 players/DAPs, cellular phones, or portable gaming systems, whether or not they also happen to play digital audio/video content.
    • Gift certificates/prepaid cards (e.g. iTunes Music Store or Apple Store gift cards).
    • Personally recorded media of any kind. This includes any kind of content distributed on a recordable CD/DVD, casette, diskette, or any other media format, including the content of an iPod itself. While we recognize that we cannot force a user to erase their hard drive before selling their iPod, existing content of an iPod should not be advertised as a selling point.
    • Any item or lot of items with a selling price in excess of $750 US.
    • Other items that are not directly related to the use or care of an Apple media device or related accessory

Please note that the list of items above includes items for sale as well as requests to buy, and requests for trades. If you are not allowed to sell it, you are not allowed to trade it or advertise it for trade. Any adverts for prohibited items will be removed without notice.

All members making use of this forum should exercise caution in any deals that they may decide to follow up. While 99.5% of transactions close without a problem and both parties are usually satisfied, there are those individuals who like to take advantage and use the internet as a way to scam people out of their hard earned money.

We have set up a Buyer & Seller Feedback area for positive or negative feedback on previous transactions. You are advised to check the feedback on members before commencing.

You are strongly advised to use the most secure method of payment for any item you are buying or selling. Some general advice can be found here.

If we discover that a member has been involved in any dishonest activity in the forums we will ban that person and if there is evidence of a crime we will co-operate fully with the victim and/or law enforcement agencies to assist in making sure that justice is done.

Remember, we cannot guarantee that an individual is who they say they are, nor that they have the item they are selling.

When posting items, please keep the title of your thread concise, but include sufficient details to describe what you are selling. Also please include the prefix "FS:" (For Sale), "WTB:" (Wanted To Buy) or "WTT:" (Wanted To Trade) as this lets someone browsing the list clearly see the status of an item.

Once your thread is no longer necessary (e.g. you have sold your item), please close it. There is an option to do this in the "Thread Tools" menu at the top of the thread. Only close your thread when you are sure that you no longer need it. Closed threads will automatically be moved into the Archived Classifieds forum, as will threads with no activity in 60 days or more.

    New Member Restrictions

To help reduce the number of fraudulent listings from users who clearly sign up for iLounge merely to post such listings, we have instituted a new policy on the use of the Classifieds forum by new members.

New "Freshman Loungers" will only be able to read the Classified forum and respond to existing threads and posts -- they will not be able to start their own threads offering items for sale until such time as they have reached "Regular Member" status ("Junior Lounger") which occurs after 10 posts have been made and they have been a member for at least 7 days.

  • With the number of recent threads from brand new users that we have observed in our Classifieds forum selling goods under questionable circumstances, we have instituted a new policy restricting new members of iLounge from posting new threads in the Classifieds forum until they have reached "Regular Member" status.

New users become Regular Members once they have made 10 posts and been a member of the iLounge Forums for at least 7 days. Prior to this time, members may still read the Classifieds forum, and even respond to existing threads for items being sold by other members, but they may not create new threads advertising their own items for sale.

This will hopefully help to protect our user community by discouraging fraudulent users from signing up and posting classified ads without having at least a very basic level of established membership in our forums.

Obviously all users should still exercise due diligence when making use of our classifieds forums, but we hope that this restriction will help to decrease the number of blatantly fraudulent ads that we have been seeing in recent weeks.

Please be sure to review our Classified Forum Policy for more information.

This guy is a scammer. He is trying to scam someone on that site for money. My advice is to not do business with anyone over AIM or online if you can't check them out first. If it sounds to good to be true it probably is.

Post the links to the threads in question including the one in which you transacted with him.
Did some checking around and couldn't find much information on him. He has 2 posts on this site selling an iPod (see top post but must be registered to view post).

My guess is that he is selling the same iPod to more than one person.

Please do not do business with this website. It is a fraudulent site. Don't ever send money via Western Union to pay for anything. No legitimate business will ask you to send cash using this method.

Ipodsrule.net & Ipodsonsale SCAM!! - Decided to check this information out and I would suggest not using this site to purchase iPods.

Thread at Whirlpool forums where some of their victims posted:
Beware! ipodsrule.net & ipodsonsale.net

Ripoff report: 57 Entries Found

A post on the website Slick Deals:
Get this - their Paypal email address is: [email protected], AND they are not a verified Paypal member. Of course, you don't find that out until after the transaction is made and they've taken your money!

You can read the whole thread here.

Article to read: Bargain Sounds Too Good? Stay Away

But iPodsRule.net is not an authorized Apple dealer. (Apple lists authorized merchants at www.apple.com/buy.) However, Apple is one of the few manufacturers that will honor the warranty on gray-market products. IPodsRule.net could not be reached for comment.

Some options available where a complaint can be filed:
Welcome to econsumer.gov!
The site is in English, Espanol, Deutsch, Francais, Korean & Polish. It is a joint project of consumer protection agencies from 20 nations. You can report your complaint here.

Consumer Sentinel - See how law enforcement all over the world work together to fight fraud, using Consumer Sentinel, an innovative, international law enforcement fraud-fighting program.

Use this site to:

-get the facts on consumer frauds from Internet cons, prize promotions, work-at-home schemes, and telemarketing scams to identity theft.
-report your fraud complaints so they can be shared with law enforcement officials across the U.S. and around the world.
-learn how U.S., Canadian, and Australian law enforcers work together with private sector companies and consumer organizations to combat fraud.
-see trends and the types of complaints consumers file.

The information in this report has either been provided by the company, or has been compiled by the Bureau from other sources.

Nature of Business

The company offers a mail order and online catalog of consumer electronics.

The consumer should read carefully all the posted information online, especially make a note of the company's disclosure that All prices listed are after applicable manufacturer's rebates.

Customer Experience

Based on BBB files, this company has an unsatisfactory record with the Bureau due to unanswered complaint(s). The company has resolved most complaint(s) presented by the Bureau; however, the Bureau did not receive a response to other complaint(s). Complaints generally concern the problem with the prices posted online. Consumers complain that the pricing policy is hidden in the company's privacy statement and it is not clear that all prices listed are after applicable manufacture's rebates. Consumers further allege that when transactions are finalized online, one is given the impression that the credit card is only being charged the after rebates price.

The company generally responds by referring to the posted pricing policy on the web.

When evaluating complaint information, please consider the company's size and volume of business. The number of complaints filed against the company may not be as important as the type of complaints and how the company handled them.

The Bureau processed a total of 186 complaints about this company in the last 36 months, our standard reporting period. Of the total 186 complaints in the last 36 months, 79 of those were closed in the last 12 months.

Company Advertising

On 09/28/04, the Better Business Bureau challenged an ad
on the company's web site identifying the business as a 5 Star Merchant. The company never substantiated the claim or responded to the Better Business Bureau.

On 10/6/04, the Bureau contacted the company regarding the layout and illustrations on its web site. The Bureau asked the company to modify the site to accurately reflect the cost of merchandise and accessories sold separately, but the company did not respond to the Bureau's request for revisions.

On 10/27/05, the Bureau contacted the company regarding its advertisement of the Canon EOS 20D continental package. The web site says this package includes the following: a 1GB CompactFlash Card, a lithium type battery and a full US warranty. Upon calling the company to confirm her order, a customer was informed the lithium battery is one time use, that the flash card doesn't work very well in the camera and that the warranty is only 3 months.

According to the BBB Code of Advertising, advertisers should not permit the use of the following bait scheme practices:

- disparaging the advertised merchandise or service, its warranty, availability, services and parts, etc.;

- selling the advertised merchandise or service and thereafter unselling the customer to make a switch to other merchandise or service.

The company disputes the Bureau's interpretation of the Code, noting that our web site already offers both standard and high speed cards as well as warranties of different lengths and reghargeable batteries as an additional option. Our ads do not omit these items, they are listed as optional items on the product page.

On January 3, 2006, the Bureau contacted the company regarding the availability of merchandise advertised on its web site.

According to the BBB Code of Advertising, an advertiser should have on hand a sufficient quantity of advertised merchandise to meet reasonably anticipated demands, unless the ad discloses the number of items available or states while supplies last. Further, per the BBB Code of Online Business Practices, online merchants should disclose material information about the online transaction itself including, but not limited to:

a)terms of the transaction,
b)product availability/shipping information, and
c)prices and customer costs.

The company disputes the Bureau's interpretation of the Code, noting that due to the high volume of business, it is impossible to accurately detail stock levels. Merchandise is always coming in and being sold and if a consumer needs merchandise more quickly we can do a manual check for the item.

Government Actions

NEWARK, NJ. Nov. 30, 2006.
The Attorney General's Office and Division of Consumer Affairs have filed suit against an Edison-based electronics company for allegedly violating the state's Consumer Fraud Act and Advertising Regulations in its advertisement and sale of cameras and other electronic equipment.

The lawsuit, filed in Middlesex County Superior Court, alleges that Save Here Distribution, Inc., engaged in unconscionable commercial practices and made false promises and misrepresentations to consumers.

The company sells items through various web sites and toll-free telephone numbers. Sale items include cameras, televisions, VCRs and gaming consoles, among other things.

The state's complaint alleges that Save Here Distribution used bait and switch tactics, failed to deliver merchandise and misled consumers in the advertising and pricing of items. The specific allegations include:
Failing to sell merchandise at the price advertised on the company's web site;
Charging or attempting to separately charge for accessories or equipment that the Original Equipment Manufacturer included with the merchandise (for example, camera batteries and/or battery chargers);
Charging consumers inflated shipping and handling fees;
Failing to provide any price reduction for merchandise which appears to be on sale or reduced;
Failing to inform consumers at the time of purchase that some or all of the merchandise is out of stock; and
Refusing to permit consumers to cancel an order or merchandise upgrade prior to shipment.
The company allegedly used terms like Price Drop, List Price and/or Our Price on its web sites without providing any price reductions for the advertised merchandise.
Save Here Distribution has advertised and/or sold merchandise through the following web sites: expresscameras.com, geniuscameras.com, trustedcamera.com, trustedphoto.com, luckydigital8.com, clearviewcamera.com, bluestripephoto.com and hopecamera.com.

The state is seeking restitution for affected consumers, maximum civil penalties which currently provide for up to $10,000 for the initial violation of the Consumer Fraud Act and up to $20,000 for each subsequent violation, and reimbursement of the state's investigative costs and legal fees.

Deputy Attorney General Geoffrey R. Gersten is representing the state in this matter.

The Bureau has requested basic information from this company. The Bureau has not received a response. Without this information, the Bureau may not have current information concerning such things as the company's management or its nature of business.

Customer Experience

Based on BBB files, this company has an unsatisfactory record with the Bureau due to failure to respond to one or more complaints and or two or more otherwise unresolved complaints. However the business has resolved most complaints presented to the bureau.

Our file contains a pattern of complaints concerning delay in repair of ipods. According to consumer complaints, the company's website states a repair quote will be provided in 24 hours and 24 hour LCD repair, however, does not provide the repair quotes or LCD repair within the advertised 24 hour time frame.

In June 2006, the BBB of Western Michigan contacted Nick Woodhams, owner of Ipod mechanic, in regards to a number of recent complaints received. Ipod Mechanic claims the loss of employees and some overwhelming response to their web site service claims has caused a significant delay in either repairing or refunding service customers.

As of July 14, 2006, the Ipod mechanic website states, "We are not taking any more orders until we clear our backlog of work. All customers will receive their Ipod or the proper refund amount. We will address concerns in the order of receipt."

The BBB was assured by Mr. Woodhams that he will fix or refund all complaints registered via the BBB of Western Michigan IN ORDER OF RECEIPT. Given the size of this problem, it may take a few weeks to catch up with the repairs. Consumer should acknowledge the return/refund to close any complaints.

At that time, the company made an attempt to address all BBB complaints and many were unresolved.

Since that time, the BBB's files again show a pattern of no response to consumer complaints brought to the company's attention by the Bureau.

When considering complaint information, please take into account the company's size and volume of transactions, and understand that the nature of complaints and a firm's responses to them are often more important than the number of complaints.

The Bureau processed a total of 97 complaints about this company in the last 36 months, our standard reporting period. Of the total of 97 complaints closed in 36 months, 96 were closed in the last year.

Additional File Information

In May 2007, a consumer reported to the BBB that the company may have moved from 832 Weaver Avenue, Kalamazoo, MI to 5837 Portage Road, Portage, MI.

The BBB was unable to reach the company by phone to confirm the address change, but the Portage address is listed on the company's website.

US iTunes gift certificates bought with stolen cards by fmdjambajuice

That $100 iTunes card selling for less than $50 seems tempting, but have you ever stopped and thought about how it can get so cheap?

The fact is that US iTunes music store wholesale price is $0.70 per song. Anyone selling an iTunes for less than 70% face value is automatically losing money (especially when you consider eBay and PayPal fees reduce profits by about 10%)... unless they got the card for free of course. True, that some folks get iTunes gift certificates as unwanted gifts and seek to get rid of them on eBay. But is it likely that a seller located outside of the US got 10 of them at the same time as gifts? Probably not. Most likely the cards were purchased from a stolen credit card! Please see this forum thread here.

Why is it important to check the country that the seller is from?

Apple does not sell US iTunes gift certificates in other countries due to content licensing restrictions. An iTunes gift certificate must first be purchased in a US retail store or if it's purchased online from Apple, a US credit card or PayPal account is needed. How is it possible then that a non-US seller can sell tens or hundreds of iTunes codes at once?

The risks of buying stolen iTunes:

Once the owner of the stolen credit card reports the theft to his or her credit card company and requests a chargeback, the following can happen:

If you have not yet redeemed the iTunes card, the number you received can be canceled by Apple.
If you have already redeemed the iTunes card, Apple can suspend your iTunes store account. The amount you have left in your account is no longer accessible unless you work it out with Apple customer support.

In either case you will have to file a chargeback with your credit card company or file a PayPal dispute to get your money back. You can also possibly lose your iTunes account. The person who owns the stolen credit card may not realize that his/her card is stolen until several days or weeks later, and by the time it's reported to the credit card company, eBay buyers will have usually already left positive feedback for the stolen iTunes.

What to look for:

* Sellers selling iTunes gift certificates for less than 75% of the face value and selling them in bulk (check their feedback history!)
* Sellers located outside of the United States. But although if the seller's location says "United States" it does not guarantee he or she is in the country:
o Any eBay account can be hacked and stolen. Signs of a hacked account:
+ A seller does not have feedback for months or years and suddenly started receiving lots and lots of feedback all on iTunes sales. Hackers usually target inactive accounts so that the real account owner doesn't notice that their account is stolen
o eBay does not verify the address that you registered with. A person can register for a US account from anywhere in the world. Only a user's PayPal account verifies the country
* A new seller registered on eBay with a US address but has only been selling iTunes gift certificates and no physical items were bought or sold (such as books, electronics).
* When paying by PayPal, check for 1. in what country is their PayPal account verified and 2. how long ago was that PayPal account set up
* A seller who built a "strong" feedback history by buying or selling $0.01 items. Fraudulent sellers will collude with other fraudsters to build up each others' feedback in this very quick and very cheap way. In other cases, the buyer and seller are the same person!

iTunes gift certificates continue to be one of the most heavily stolen gift certificates sold on eBay. Buy US iTunes from verified sellers whose PayPal accounts are in the United States and has had transactions of physical items within the US and you'll have the best possible protection against fraud.
