Thread ID to iPod listed in Clasifieds - 141502
After several converstations back and forth I agreed to purchase his 4Gen iPod. Took delivery of the unit (1/17) and I immediately noticed a problem. The headphones that was included in the deal were shot. A short somewhere in the connection point. I was a little miffed but I have several other pairs of headphones. No big loss.
I plugged in a different pair of headphones and played a few of the songs he included on the iPod. Things seemed fine. Then I noticed that if I move the iPod just right with the headphones plugged in the iPod stopped playing and I would have to hit play to resume the song. At first I thought I just didn't plug the headphones in all the way but that wasn't the case.
Fast forward a few days later (1/21) and decided to get a few songs off the iPod and format it again so I could start to copy over my library. Everything went fine until I started to copy over the songs. iTunes would die a horrible death after copying over about 95 songs. iTunes would lock up and the iPod would freeze. I tried it again listening to the iPod and heard a strange noise from the hard drive and then the drive stopped spinning and then restarted. This happened every time I tried to copy my library over. Even tried using EphPod.
I should have been leary when he mentioned that he didn't accept returns and it is sold as-is. Here is an excerpt from my AIM log.
[18:23] HIM: u do understand from the listing that i accept no returns and it is sold as is
[18:23] ME: yeah..we have no problem as long as your description is accurate...
[18:23] HIM: yea ok
[18:23] ME: it powers up and works fine correct?
[18:23] HIM: yep
[18:23] HIM: plays music and all
I didn't see him AIM for a few days so I sent him an e-mail and this was his response....
"It must be a computer problem on your end because i had no problems putting music on the ipod. i sent the ipod already formatted, so maybe when you reformatted it it corrupted the hard drive. I used iPod Agent to put music on there. Sorry about the headphones i havent used it in a while so i was unaware they were shot."
Well needless to say I had a $180 paper weight. I decided to send the iPod into the repair center to see what they said. I just received an e-mail on (1/25) letting me know the hard drive is indeed shot. Since I'm getting the hard drive replaced they decided to throw in the repair of the headphone jack for free.
Personally I think he knew about both of these problems. At this point the only satisfactory resoultion would be for Cog to pay for half of my repair bill for the new hard drive. The drive was $150.00 so $75.
