Nano 4G- do generic mics work?

Hey all,

I have a Nano 4G and bought a cheap mic attachment that plugs in to the headphone jack. I thought it would work with the Nano 4G, but plugging it in doesn't bring up the Voice Memos in the menu.

Is an 'Apple-approved' device necessary? This one was advertised as being compatible with the iPhone, so I thought it would work. It was only $5 so no biggie if it doesn't.

There's the new Apple 'phones with Remote and Mic, or you might try one of these from Incipio; only $18

Yeah, that Lloyd device looks very interesting...What's weird is that I doubt that device has an authentication chip or anything like that, and plugs in through the headphone jack too.

Maybe I got a defective one, who knows.

If anyone else has used the voice recorder with the 4G Nano, please let me know what you used.

Hey, I got it to work! I plugged it in again, and just twised the plug a bit and Voice Memos suddenly showed up on the main menu.

So it appears that yes, $5 cheapo mics that plug in through the headphone jack are fine too.
