Well as you might know, when you get songs from iTunes they are in M4P which is kinda annoying since apparently things like winamp and some other things dont work it. Is there a conversion method thats free? I looked on the internet and only found JHYMN but that was supposed to only work for iTunes versions under 6.0 which i'm not.

thanks, but I was meaning M4P not MP4, m4p is the protected thingy that makes the file sorta only work with iTunes, i'm right now in the process of attempting to get old versions of iTunes i guess.

The cheap way is to:
- Burn the song to a CD (use the RW type so you can re-use it)
- Ensure that your iTunes preferences are set use the mp3 encoder for importing
- Re-import the song(s) from the CD that you just burned
- Decide which file to keep (m4p, mp3, or both)

You'll lose some sound quality and it's not very convenient, but that's what many do to get around this issue. Note that you don't have to use iTunes to re-rip the CD if you have some other means of creating an mp3 from a CD.
