• With the number of recent threads from brand new users that we have observed in our Classifieds forum selling goods under questionable circumstances, we have instituted a new policy restricting new members of iLounge from posting new threads in the Classifieds forum until they have reached "Regular Member" status.

New users become Regular Members once they have made 10 posts and been a member of the iLounge Forums for at least 7 days. Prior to this time, members may still read the Classifieds forum, and even respond to existing threads for items being sold by other members, but they may not create new threads advertising their own items for sale.

This will hopefully help to protect our user community by discouraging fraudulent users from signing up and posting classified ads without having at least a very basic level of established membership in our forums.

Obviously all users should still exercise due diligence when making use of our classifieds forums, but we hope that this restriction will help to decrease the number of blatantly fraudulent ads that we have been seeing in recent weeks.

Please be sure to review our Classified Forum Policy for more information.

I was at the apple store recently, there was a line as well. Apparently the iPhone is in such high demand, still, that whenever shipments arrive people flock to get theirs.

Propaganda I tell you.

No, but I suppose waiting in line because someone else is waiting in line makes you a 'typical Apple Sheep'.

Personally I don't wait in line to buy something unless it's at the register to pay. These people don't even know what they are lining up for. Yes, they are idiots cause they have bought into the apple hype machine, disparate to have the first taste at anything. I have better things to do. I only noticed because it was mentioned in this forum.

Psssh... Anytime there is a long line outside a Chinese restaurant, that means GOOD FOOD AT CHEAP PRICES! :)

I've never seen on at the Apple Store either. Lots of people, mostly at the Genius Bar but no lines. Maybe when the 3G iPhone hits. :D

Well, how in the world do you think they are going to get to the register. :D

Apple "hype machine?" Don't you think you are being a little dramatic? Apple, like every other co. advertises product. People watch advertising and listen to the words of others. What's the big deal about that?

He definitely knows that he's being dramatic. Read some others of JMG's posts, you'll quickly find a negative slant when it comes to most anything Apple. Which is fine, it's just there is all.

The odd thing about this story was that a line stretching a city block formed for literally no reason outside a store that is open 24 hours a day. So if you just left and came back in a few hours you'd be totally fine since there really was nothing to wait for.

^^^ That's not odd to me at all. This line formed around lunchtime, correct? Fifth Ave at 59th is not residential. The area gets pretty thick with people during certain times of the day and virtually empty at others. People often drop by that location because they are shopping at the other stores in the area. This area is thick with tourists and people who don't live in Manhattan at certain times of day..and it's unlikely that these people would make their way back at a later time. That's what makes the most sense to me.

Why the need to pretend that a sizable portion of the Apple user community doesn't overreact to hype and rumors? Do you see a windowsrumors.com anywhere?

LOL, it doesn't make any sense to assume that the Apple user community is any more susceptible to hype than any other consumer community. Unless you want to claim that the company attracts people of a certain personality type, which is ludicrous. Most of the people that own windows boxes just have them because they don't what else is out there and don't really care. It's not really fair to compare.

My dad only has Windows because he's never used anything else, and doesn't care to.

He always told me "if something is worth doing, it's worth doing well," but would rather buy three low-end computers rather than one higher-end computer.

It's the same reason he has only owned Dodge vehicles (until he bought a Chrysler recently), because he's "never had a problem with them." He's also never had a problem with any other manufacturer, because he's never owned one.

Apple's entire marketing campaign proves otherwise.

I wouldn't be so quick to pin it on Apple. The vast majority of hype comes from the press and "enthusiasts". All Apple has to do is keep everything a secret, and announce when they're going to announce. The mere announcement of an upcoming product announcement will create far more buzz than most companies' actual product announcements.

Its really pretty clever the way they keep everything a secret until the day it will show up on shelves. Its hyped, its announced, then its there! If you want whatever is being announced on announcement day, get in line before you know what it is you're getting in line for!

Most other companies pre-announce months in advance, and what little enthusiasm they might have had in the first place will be completely worn off by the time the product hits the shelves. Not as clever.
