Several users who have switched to iTunes from other programs have coplained about iTunes lack of a Now Playing feature.

Can someone describe for me what exactly the complaint is?

I've been using iTunes for Windows and just want to know what I don't know I'm missing

para: you know in MC9 you have the Playing Now icon in the Action Window? You can click on that and see what songs are queued up?

Can do that in iTunes w/o making a playlist first or selecting an album. And if you browse off of that playlist, you have no way of knowing what you're playing? Yes, the current song playing is displayed, but not the Playlist or album etc.

Most media management/library tools have this feature--I'd venture to say all but iTunes.

Something approximating a 'Now Playing' feature I've discovered is to press CTRL-L. This jumps to the album or playlist currently playing, although sometimes this is done in the context of 'All albums' (i.e. the album you are playing is shown with all the others above and below).

Aaahh... thanks for clarifying for me.

My workaround was to create a playlist called Now Playing and drag stuff there.

So only difference seems that it doesn't say on top, when I click elsewhere, but I'm back there in one click, so its not so bad.

What if you want to jump to a specific song of the album or playlist currently playing? What if you want to rate the song currently playing? What if you can't remember whether you are playing an album in its entirety or just the song in a playlist? These among other things are what I find 'Now Playing' useful for.

i dont know about earier versions.. but the latest itunes has this itunes dj option (renamed from party shuffle)

whenever u start playing a song, right click on it n select "play in itunes dj".. this starts your now playing list.. now whichever song you want next, simply right click on that n select "play next in itunes dj"

i hope this clears out any doubts on the capability of itunes. ;)

Just a little gentle teasing here -- kinda like checking rear view mirrors before pulling out of a parking space (to make sure no one's too close to you), it's a good idea to check the dates on posts before you respond (to make sure no one's too far away from you -- 5 1/2 years in this case ;-)
