No trolls or nutswingers please.. After installing iTunes 7, I'm having VARIOUS problems.... My iPod disconnects itself from the computer automatically once I try to update or restore the iPod's firmware... I've gotten multiple error messages so far (and I'll post them if they pop up again), and my computer pretty much won't recognize the iPod UNLESS I do a fresh reboot.

I'm using Windows XP. Had no problems with my previous iTunes.

What are your problems? Any solutions to mine??

I would imagine the problem lies with your ipod, since most people don't seem to have similar problems. I would suggest reseting your iPod first, to see if that makes a difference. If not, try restoring it.

This is a wierd one. I noticed a problem after I installed iTunes 7, but I'm not sure if it has anythng to do with it or not.

I have a GATEWAY desktop PC, on which I loaded iTunes and with which i sync my iPod (no problems, generally speaking). It has a creative labs sound system (four speakers and sub-woofer).

Now, for some reason, when playing music using iTunes, there is no sound coming from the rear speakers. I used the creative fader tool and can vary the sound in the front speakers as much as I want. But, nothing comes out of the rear speakers.

Then, I used Windows Media Player. Voila! Sound in all the speakers. As it should be. Just to be sure, I used the desktop software from my el-cheapo RIO MP3 player, and, bingo! Sound from all the speakers. Then back into iTunes, and same thing, no sound in the rear speakers. I have to assume the problem is associated with iTunes, but I see no settings that would be affected it.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Problem with new Itunes

I would download cds online and on the old itunes I would go to file, add file to library and then highlight all the songs and click open. This does not work anymore, but if I select each song individually it will open. Does anyone know how I can open a group of songs at once on Itunes 7?

V7 Major Problem - Music Playback Garbled

Just upgraded to iTunes V7. Now I cannot play anything from within iTunes. When playing a song, it is just garbled. You can hear the song enough to tell what it is. But it is severly distorted. More of a "repeating warbling" type sound. Like a scratched record that is playing the same section over a few times before moving on. Also, when I double click a song to play, it takes 12-15 seconds before any sound at all comes out.

In my other players, like Windows media, songs play just fine. All other audio seems OK. Just now cannot play anything in iTunes V7.

I have had iTunes since at least version 4 or 5, and upgraded everytime a new version came out. Each time with no issues until now.

Using Windows XP, SP2
2 Gig RAM
2 Terabytes Data storage
AMD 4800 Dual processor
Sound Card - Creative Emu 1212

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks...

I reset of course....

I had to do a fresh CD load of the iPod software onto another computer... Restore.. Download iTunes 7... Update... Move iPod back to my main computer... Sync

All good now... Where can I start reporting bugs? I've already found 2.

Itunes 7 speeds up all my songs!

All my songs now play at twice the speed, (I can watch the timer moving through the seconds at twice normal speed) and you can hear the blip, blip, blip, as it runs through the tracks. Anyone else have the speed up problem? Will a reinstall fix this or is it a bug? I'm also watching my cpu usage with process explorer and itunes is using anywhere from 60 to 80% of my 3500 Athlon cpu when it plays a song. Nice!

I don't have any of the problems you're describing. No distortion and when I click on a song or album it starts to play immediately.

Same problem here. This is absolutely ridiculous. Apple seriously dropped the ball on this one.

At first I thought it had something to do with the LAME codec and variable bit rates I have used to encode. But no. Podcasts and even tracks downloaded from iTunes sound just the same. Unbelievable. Shame on you, Apple.

EDIT: Found the fix in another thread: Turn the volume slider in iTunes all the way up. That will fix it.

i used to have this problem with 6.05. what you need to do is go to:

start -> control panel-> double click on quicktime. click on the audio tab and then make sure "safe mode" is checked. if it's not, then check it. then apply it, and then play. and it should be fixed.

I had the same problem too when I installed 7.0 today. I have rear surrounds and when I opened up itunes no sound came out from the rears. I tried desperately to find the solution in itunes preferences but nothing about surround sound or speaker setup. I got so frustated so I looked here and saw your post but no answers. My final straw: delete crappy itunes 7.0 and go back to a previous version.
I searched for my previous version of my itunes library and copied it just in case to my desktop and uninstalled itunes completely.

Then I did a search for a previous version of itunes (6.05 for Windows) and installed it. Copied back my old music library file to the itunes folder and played back my music and the sound came back to my 5.1 Logitech speakers.

Forget that upgrade!! It's slick but it sounds terrible and i want my surround sound so no updates for me for awhile.

iTunes 7 - problems with external hard drive

I installed iTunes 7 yesterday (I have Windows XP) but had lots of trouble. My iTunes directory is on my 'J' drive, so I changed the iTunes folder location in Preferences to my J:\itunes directory. Before closing iTunes I checked all my settings and they were correct. After closing iTunes, I went back in to see something, and it displayed the Setup Assistant again. Once it, I saw my folder location was back to the default C drive. I went through the process a few times and it kept reverting back to the C drive, each time giving me the Setup Assistant. I finally wound up uninstalling it and reinstalling a saved copy of iTunes 6, only, unfortunately, I lost all my settings and play counts because iTunes 6 couldn't use the files updated by iTunes 7. Anyone else have this experience and/or come up with a solution?

Ditto on the crash. I ran the installer and it throws that error after accepting the agreement. I removed all the old iPod updaters and uninstalled, rebooted then reinstalled. No joy.

I had the IE7 beta installed, which may have been the problem. I uninstalled and rebooted, but it's still throwing the error.

The same download of Itunes installed on my XP lappy without incident.
