Is There Anyway To Have My Artist And Eat it To?

Title is a joke but here's the problem: I have noticed that anytime I import a cd that contains multiple artists it seems to throw software into a state of confusion. If I select "part of a compilation" the artists' names won't show up in the Artists list unless I change the View selections. Nor will they show up on the ipod itself unless I deselect said "part of compilation".

Is there a simple way to list compilations under artists and have the entire album as well show up in Albums?

There is a setting on the iPod in Settings--> Music "Group By Album Artist" may help you. (Turn it to off). I don't know about iTunes though.

In iTunes, while in the Artist view, go to the menu View > View Options...

In the pop up box, the "Group Compilations" check-box controls the presence/absence of the Compilations artist group.
