• With the number of recent threads from brand new users that we have observed in our Classifieds forum selling goods under questionable circumstances, we have instituted a new policy restricting new members of iLounge from posting new threads in the Classifieds forum until they have reached "Regular Member" status.

New users become Regular Members once they have made 10 posts and been a member of the iLounge Forums for at least 7 days. Prior to this time, members may still read the Classifieds forum, and even respond to existing threads for items being sold by other members, but they may not create new threads advertising their own items for sale.

This will hopefully help to protect our user community by discouraging fraudulent users from signing up and posting classified ads without having at least a very basic level of established membership in our forums.

Obviously all users should still exercise due diligence when making use of our classifieds forums, but we hope that this restriction will help to decrease the number of blatantly fraudulent ads that we have been seeing in recent weeks.

Please be sure to review our Classified Forum Policy for more information.

Okay, so I just finished watching The Graduate and I liked it a lot, and thought it was funny when it was supposed to be and stuff, but I don't think it's funny enough to be #9 on AFI's list of funniest movies. I've seen movies made this year that are funnier, let alone from the last forty. Is there something I'm missing? Ben's general awkwardness was funny, and I suppose the overall bizarreness that the plot has is funny too, but I just don't see why it's such a big deal. Good movie, though.

Maybe it was because it was from 1967? I don't know. Things they find funny then I fail to find funny now, and some things I do. It could just be that.

The funny part is how anybody would want to seduce Dustin Hoffman........

It's more of an uncomfortabe funny, more than anything. And for all you youngsters, its might be odd to see somebody just finishing high school, enjoying scotch whisky with all the other adults.

Critics tend to give older movies more credit than they deserve, IMO. I didn't think The Graduate was that great, either.

If it is a comedy in the Shakespearian sense of comedy/tragedy than top ten comedic films, perhaps.

Among the ten "funniest" films, perhaps not.

OUCH! I actually liked him in the movie, and thought he acted well, just was concerned that my funny-sense was broken. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

LOL! Or perhaps it's that critics have more experience in the world (and in the world of film), and so have a broader set of criteria from which to examine and judge? The Graduate was quite the groundbreaker when it was released, both in the elements and developments of the story, and in its cinematography and editing (the party scene blocking and filming hadn't really been done so well since The Magnificent Ambersons). For the Generation Gap generation (and the all-too-few hip parents) who had had time to experience the social revolution that started with Whyte's The Organization Man, the movie was wry, witty, cynical-but-fresh, and directly to the point. Noteworthy performances, excellent script (Buck Henry!), etc., etc., etc.

And the year after its release was 1968....well, it was significant for its time, and it still stands up today as fine filmmaking. (Imagine what comments younger people will make 30 years from now about Fight Club or Traffic or Brokeback Mountain..... ;-)

If any of those three end up #9 on a list of the funniest movies, they'll deserve to be questioned too.

It seemed like more of a dark humor, like the same way the Sopranos had a dark humor (although different genres to be sure).

It's a good movie, I too didn't find it LOL funny.

Not that this has anything to do with comedy, but the soundtrack was definately ahead of its time. Having a very well know Simon and Garfunkel make an entire song base for a movie, might be a first, if not near first...........................
