Not sure what to do next here.

If I plug it into my Mac it just shows that yellow charging light.

Apple has an article to help get your shuffle recognized by iTunes: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204095

It is possible that the Shuffle has died too. Try to get it to sync first, and if that is successful, it should probably play again.

I tried the instructions posted above. No luck. When I leave it on the charger it just stays yellow light on. It never reaches green light (full charged).

On my MacBook Air, I had to plug the iPod in on the left side to get it to be seen.
For some unknown reason I get a flickering light on the right side. So try a different USB port.
Maybe because I am on battery, and the right side gets less power to save battery?
Based on what I have read online about it, I am not alone in this behavior.

This could also be why it is not charging as well.

I've tried swapping USB Ports - no luck

It's been charging on a wall charger for over 24 hours.

Have you tried a restart? Turn off the power, wait 10 seconds then turn it on?
Have you tried a different cable, maybe the one you have is bad?

Which version is it out of curiosity? I have a 2nd generation.

I've tried a restart.

Could be the cable.... but when plugged in it lights up the shuffle which makes me think the cable is working.

It's gotta be from 2007/2008

My cable is that old too, and works.

Your iPod Shuffle may be dead, not charging, not getting power.

If you have a friend with iTunes, I would try it on their system to be sure it is not your system. If they have a cable too, that would be even better.

My iPod charges using the headphone jack.

So does mine. You should look at finding another system to test with.

The fact that your light never stops blinking can indicate that your charging system (batter or circuitry to the battery) is broken.

The charge light on the iPod stays yellow (not blinking) when plugged into my Mac or the wall charger.

When Unplugged the iPod indictator lights don't turn on regardless of position.

Maybe the Apple Genius Bar has a solution. If they even have a charger for the iPod. It's ancient.

I bought a used iPhone 4s $45 and use it as my music player. The 4s has a small form factor and is easy to run with of put in my gym shorts pocket when working out.
