• With the number of recent threads from brand new users that we have observed in our Classifieds forum selling goods under questionable circumstances, we have instituted a new policy restricting new members of iLounge from posting new threads in the Classifieds forum until they have reached "Regular Member" status.

New users become Regular Members once they have made 10 posts and been a member of the iLounge Forums for at least 7 days. Prior to this time, members may still read the Classifieds forum, and even respond to existing threads for items being sold by other members, but they may not create new threads advertising their own items for sale.

This will hopefully help to protect our user community by discouraging fraudulent users from signing up and posting classified ads without having at least a very basic level of established membership in our forums.

Obviously all users should still exercise due diligence when making use of our classifieds forums, but we hope that this restriction will help to decrease the number of blatantly fraudulent ads that we have been seeing in recent weeks.

Please be sure to review our Classified Forum Policy for more information.

Alright so the iPod flash will be released in the not so distant future and the iPodlounge is running a design contest for the iPod flash with the winner getting a nice pair of Etymotic ER-4P's..

So this will be the thread where all of the contributions can be posted and critqued. This will prove to be much more organizied and convenient than having several scattered threads dedicated soley to one design.. So please post your designs in here and don't create a new thread for yourself...

Simply post your design and include some necessary information such as its dimensions (Length, Width, Depth, Screen size) and labels for its parts.

Keep in mind that this contest ends on December 31, 2004.. That's plenty of time to make a design.

For further contest details and instructions click here, for the official contest link.

Let the photoshopping begin! :)

You can see my design here. For anyone that's interested, it was made entirely in Freehand MX. Personally i was quite impressed with my effort as i have only started using Freehand this year for uni. Enjoy. I would appreciate any feedback, thanks.

what about a play or menu button?
play is the center button, if you read I made it so that the interface would be quite simple so there would be no menus, just music. Much like most flash players because I feel a flash iPod would be more of a "budget ipod".

That make sense when you consider most current flash players, which just play a playlist and you go forward or back (like a tiny CD player). Of course, there are 2 schools of thought on this, and having the iPod-like interface is the other. If you have a good-sized screen, you should have a good interface. But if the screen is tiny, there's no need since there won't be much menu-hopping.

I like yours a lot. It kinda reminds me of a pager. Critique: tone down the black and white refections on the bottom view or play around with them a bit. Everything else looks professional, but those metallic reflections drag it down.

Although the image is pretty mediocre, the idea is killer. If that was actually made, I'd buy one. If you were looking for critique on the image, I'd start with trying to make it look authentic. There is nothing wrong with using elements of other images to create your own unique image. Also, its hard to tell if that lower image is a view from the top or bottom. It looks like the bottom, but logic says it should be on top.

I totally back you up on that USB2 thing. I think Apple will want to stick with the proprietory dock connection.

This is the one I did. The concept is to keep it similar to the iPod mini so it would be immediately identifiable as an iPod. It would share the dock of the mini too. In order to cut space, it would use a PDA type touchscreen that would double as a scroll wheel and display. (I really wish I had been more specific when I submitted it.) Any thoughts?

Well they're not making it for you are they... I think they should just have a sole input area similar to that dock connector of the current iPods, but much smaller.. Similar to the size of the remote input. Digital Cams have them, why not the iPod..?

and why not lol I'm the customer?
They are making it in what they think would be the best possible design. If they don't feel FireWire should be supported then they don't need to include it. I posted that because you made it sound like everyone is neglecting your needs somehow..

The firewire plug on digital cams don't support bus power. The original iPods had only a firewire plug, but that was switched to a more versatile dock plug. They won't go to just a USB2 port. Most Macs don't even have USB2. Plus, Apple recieves a royalty from everything "firewire", why would they abandon that?

Yes they do... Almost every Mac I've seen for the past 1-2 years have had at least 1 USB port.. All current models support USB as well..

well what is an ipod that doesn't support firewire? it's just any other DAP. Firewire is what set it apart from the others like it.
