Still waiting on my ipod.

But i got an important question for all ppl who have a 5G ipod.

What is the quality like when you record audio in through the mini jack port on the top?

I'm supposed to film 2 gigs this month and i need to record audio from the mixing deck - and i was hoping that i could just plug my new ipod in and press record.

has anyone done this? with a mic maybe?

How were the results?

You're going to have to make other plans. The minijack on top is output only.

For recording in, you'll need some kind of as yet to be released device/microphone that will plug into the dock connector on the bottom. I hear they're coming, but I've not seen one yet.

As for what you're looking to do, I don't think iPods have ever been able to record in w/o some kind of accessory attachment.

Actually, there are quite a few accessories available that will allow you to record on the iPod. Many of them are being updated to work with the new 5G iPod. You can actually record using the earbuds. Boot into the diagnostic menu and you'll find a small record test. I seem to recall it samples at 8kHz mono, but it's a neat little trick.

I haven't heard of this before. If you can record this way with the earbuds, then in theory it should work with a powered external mic plugged into the minijack, yes? (Although at 8khz, it doesn't much matter what mic is used)

How does one boot into diagnostic mode and do the test?

Thanks.
