• With the number of recent threads from brand new users that we have observed in our Classifieds forum selling goods under questionable circumstances, we have instituted a new policy restricting new members of iLounge from posting new threads in the Classifieds forum until they have reached "Regular Member" status.

New users become Regular Members once they have made 10 posts and been a member of the iLounge Forums for at least 7 days. Prior to this time, members may still read the Classifieds forum, and even respond to existing threads for items being sold by other members, but they may not create new threads advertising their own items for sale.

This will hopefully help to protect our user community by discouraging fraudulent users from signing up and posting classified ads without having at least a very basic level of established membership in our forums.

Obviously all users should still exercise due diligence when making use of our classifieds forums, but we hope that this restriction will help to decrease the number of blatantly fraudulent ads that we have been seeing in recent weeks.

Please be sure to review our Classified Forum Policy for more information.

"Appleinsider cites "reliable" sources and reports that Apple is readying the 4th Generation iPods.

The upcoming iPods reportedly sport a max capacity of 50GB of storage, 2 inch color LCDs, video out, photo display capabilities, and revised (Mini-like) navigation wheel.

No release date is provided. "

Cool!

I'm glad I'm goin with a 3rd gen, colour lcd will drain the battery so quickly.
Unless they have somehow managed to make this an OLED screen, although that seems unlikely. Anyway, it's not the color in the screen that drains power so much as the backlight that is necessary to make the colors look good. If they were intelligent, they would design the screen such that it works in greyscale for day-to-day navigation and use, and you would only need the color to see pictures and album artwork, etc.

We'll have to wait to the end of the year tho, according to the rumors.
That'd be good for me, since i don't like the sound of this new 4th gen one, and it gives me more time to save some more money to buy the 20 gig that I want x_x

*rolls eyes* No thanks.. I will keep my "wack 3rd gen"

Seriousley who cares if it can play movies... how often do you walk around watching a movie???? Or in the car...?

I think its cool, but then you might as well get a portable DVD player...

I agree, the ability to watch a movie on my iPod is useless to me, and Steve Jobs would agree too. However, I don't think that's the point of the color screen. I think the point is a) to be able to view images from digital cameras and the like, and b) to make the user interface cooler - after all, cool is what Apple does best! There has been a great deal of interest from digital photographers in using the iPod as a portable media storage device. In fact, the market for standalone devices that do only that is pretty big and growing with every new generation of digital cameras.

50GB? :(

I've got just under 46GB in itunes as it is. I'm still hoping for a 60. Oh well, I'll just wait and see.

I don't believe it will have a colour screen which can display pictures, etc... an iPod like that wouldnt sell very well with the general public. Plus, it wouldn't be an iPod. iPod is a stylish, easy to use music player, thats all, and Apple knows it. They wouldnt stuff it up with a colour screen etc. The only improvements would be fairly minor.

All these rumours about a colour screen iPod have been going around for ages... its all false. Get a PDA or something if you want colour screen video and photo.

I agree. I'm looking for just an mp3 player, and don't want any bells and whistles. I hope they just concentrate on what needs improving on the current ipod in terms of playing music, and leave anything else to a different product

I dunno, a colour screen would be cool for displaying your CD boxart while you listened.

Movies? or Pictures? A movie player is pretty worthless... (what would you watch, where would you get the movies.. etc) But the digital picture thing mioght be a nice touch, assuming it doesn't get in the way of anything..

EDIT: Oh yeah, video out...
MAybe it won't be designed to watch movies on the screen, but designed to use a a portable VCR... Catch my drift? Who the hell wants to watch a movie on a two inch screen, anyway?

Any idea if there will be price rollbacks on the 15, 20, and 40GB models? I read that the 50 GB will be $499--the current price of the 40GB one.

all the extra gadgets and features are a great way for them to make money.
i personally bought the ipod to play mp3s and 15GB is ####loads anyway.
any extra features like watching movies (!) don't appeal and are not worth the extra cash, thats my point of view.
if i want to watch a movie, i watch it on tv lol

A report in the middle of last year mentioned the agreement Apple has to use OLED screens. This is more of fact than I could ever say for these rumor sites.

So far OLED screens haven't exactly been designed for full blown video...look at the exterior display on the LG VX6000 mobile phone; that's where OLED technology currently is.
