I have a 3G 20gb ipod. It's almost full, about 2Gb away. I'm thinking of selling this one and upgrading to the photo. I have a couple of Qs:

1. If you fill the iphoto with 25,000 pictures, how may gb are left over for music?

2. Can I use google's picasa program to load pictures?

3. Can I use "my pictures" folder instead of adobe elements?

4. what are the pros and cons re 30Gb v. 60gb?

Thank you!

1. Come on, it depends on the size of each file. 30GB for music and photos. If you got 20GB filled with pics, you'll have 10GB for your music, and so no.

2. No

3. Yes, you can use the folders you want

4. 60gb pro: 30 gb more. cons: bigger

So 25000 pictures equals 20gb?
My question was more focused on how many GB get used by by 25,000 pictures -- in the non-hard drive mode.

according to apple's website, the 30gb can hold approximately 25000 photos

I am just focusing on the thumb prints, not the actual pictures in the ipod's disc mode. If you just had the thumbprints only, up to max, how much room is left?

If you fill the iPod with 25,000 pictures you have no room left for music. The 25,000 number as I interpret it is the number of pictures it can hold total.

From the website: "up to 15,000 songs and full-color album cover art — or as many as 25,000 photos in your pocket."

Notice the "or" if you fit 25,000 photos on there, there is no room for music. Also the 25,000 and 15,000 numbers is for the 60 gb, not for the 30gb, so you'll only get about 12,000 photos.

The pictures are from a 4gb camera. So, if I fill my 30gb with 20gb of music, leaving 10gb for pictures, how many pictures can I put on the ipod. SORRY to be sucha dunce about this...(!)

Would completely be dependent on why size pictures you make from the camera and how you transfer them over. iTunes compresses them on converting it seems and the webpage doesn't talk about how big they do that to.

Do the math. If 60 gb = 25,000 divide it out to get how many pictures per gigabyte and multiply by 10.

Excellent! Thank you. I see:

60gb and no music = 25,000
30gb and no music =12,500

10gb =4,166 pictures = a lot of room!
