I have an iphone 5s. It doesn't have cell service. Thinking of putting music on it for streaming.

Problem- I don't know the 6 digit passcode. When I enter the passcode the phone is disabled for 15 mins.

I have a 5s backup, but I am not sure if it belongs to this phone. I don't think it does.

Please advise.

Assuming it has the same Apple ID as you are currently using, you can restore it with iTunes. It will be empty and the latest iOS will be installed.

It doesn’t matter if the backup is from this 5s or not. If it is, not this 5s, it could be restored with that backup and it will be that 5s.

Fail enough times with the passcode, and the phone will force the restore.

If you don’t have the Apple ID, then the phone is a paperweight.

I think the ID I have now is the same one, because there is a 5s backup I can see in iTunes for the 5s from 2019.

SO I need to fail on the passcode entry a lot. When I first tried a few times, the delay to enter a new passcode was 15 mins. NOW it's 1 hr..jeez

I turn on the phone, and I see Hello in many languages- normal

When I open iTunes should the phone appear? It doesn't appear in iTunes. Just curious.

It should appear in iTunes if the iPhone has been connected to this computer before and has been told to trust it.

That would also allow you to restore it with iTunes.

Sometimes an update on the iPhone will remove the trust of the computer it used to sync with previously.

If the iPhone says hello in many messages it was updated the last time you used it. Maybe from iOS 11 something to iOS 12 something.

Eventually the failures will fire the restore, or you can force the restore with iCloud by using Find My app, look for the iPhone 5s and choose Erase iPhone.
