Hey,

Does anyone know if it will be possible to connect an iPad to an iPhone?
For fun, and probably rather useless, reasons such as changing songs, managing the slideshow etc. But more importantly: use the iPhone as a modem
for the iPad. I know there will be a 3G version of the iPad, but I won't be
buying it to replace my phone, so as I already have a data plan I don't really
use all that much, it would he nice if I could use it with the iPad instead of buying another 3G plan.

Also, this may have been discussed, will it be possible to play files from a remote network drive? Or will I have to always sync with iTunes?

Regards,
Mattias

Bluetooth tethering for sharing an internet connection would be great, but AT&T want extra money for tethering, they offer a plan on the iPad, and Apple wants the extra $130 for the 3G model of the iPad, so I doubt we'll see it.

The iPad seems like a large iPhone so no, I don't see why Apple would support a connection between an iPad and iPhone. Apple is already charging a premium for the 3G iPads due to not requiring a contract and either at&t or Apple don't really like tethering with the iPhone (is that support even out yet?). Service providers such as t-mobile and Verizon charge an additional ~$40 a month for tethering anyway. So no, I highly doubt that Apple will allow an iPad to be tethered with an iPhone.

As for your second question... Again, the iPad essentially a large iPhone/iPod touch. You would sync content to it as if the iPad were an iPod. You might be able to access a networked drive through Safari but you won't be able to actually sync the iPad through this. I believe Safari on the iPad (along with the e-mail client) supports the downloading of files but, just in reading Apple's documentation on the iPad, this appears to be limited to office-type files (documents, presentations, pictures, spreadsheets, etc.).

I am planning to get the WiFi-only iPad. Currently, I don't have tethering enabled on my jailbroken iPhone 3G. But, I may enable the tethering once I get the iPad.

What I would like to see is Mac + iPad interaction. Example: Being able to move Photoshop (or other photo apps) panels and palettes to the iPad.

Enjoy life!

I am not sure why purchasing an iPad would change your stance on tethering especially since I am 99.9999999999999999999999999999999999% confident than the iPad cannot be tethered to the iPhone for 3G data access. Why I am so certain? This is not a feature in iPhone OS 3.2 (what the iPad is running). A feature like this would have been explained during the iPad keynote. We also lack accessories that go from one dock connector to another. People have long asked for the ability to sync data between two iPod/iPhone devices. Apple hasn't done it now (it has been 9 years since people first started asking for this) and the release of the iPad isn't going to change that. In fact, that might be a likely reason why the iPad lacks a USB port.

I would think that this will happen. I believe during the roll-out last week, it was emphatically stated that you'll be able to import existing documents and templates from your computer into the iWork apps (Pages, Keynote and Numbers) on the iPad. I should think that this capability will apply to other productivity apps.

This is what I'm looking forward to, also -- and it would seem to be a logical and tangible expression of the general idea behind the iPad: that it occupies a middle ground between a smart phone and an all-purpose computer.

What would be wonderful is if you could invoke a workspace transfer automatically! In other words, instant synching of key docs you're working on--drag a doc onto the iPad icon--or simply off the screen--and it appears on the iPad for working on the go!
