• With the number of recent threads from brand new users that we have observed in our Classifieds forum selling goods under questionable circumstances, we have instituted a new policy restricting new members of iLounge from posting new threads in the Classifieds forum until they have reached "Regular Member" status.

New users become Regular Members once they have made 10 posts and been a member of the iLounge Forums for at least 7 days. Prior to this time, members may still read the Classifieds forum, and even respond to existing threads for items being sold by other members, but they may not create new threads advertising their own items for sale.

This will hopefully help to protect our user community by discouraging fraudulent users from signing up and posting classified ads without having at least a very basic level of established membership in our forums.

Obviously all users should still exercise due diligence when making use of our classifieds forums, but we hope that this restriction will help to decrease the number of blatantly fraudulent ads that we have been seeing in recent weeks.

Please be sure to review our Classified Forum Policy for more information.

I keep packaging. Is it just me?

I still have the box my old iPod came in. I think the box for the iBook is somewhere too. Do others keep stuff like this well after it's really needed?

I keep almost most boxes I pruchased because it's convinient if I would move out to go to another town. I saw that many people try to look for boxes when they move out.

There was a time in my life that I moved often, and nothing keep electronics safer then the origional box and packing material. I don't have any intent to move, anytime soon, yet I still keep all those boxes.

I keep all the packaging for my PC games, game consoles, and handheld devices. Stuff that has original packaging will sell faster on e-bay. Also, I have a mount in my room that has 2 glass shelves and 3 sword holders. On the glass shelves I have my most recent PC game purchases. Sitting up there now is Everquest 2, Doom 3, Final Fantasy VI, Warcraft 3 Battle Chest, and my iPod box.

I kept the packaging with my ipod, along with everything that came with it in case something really went wrong or if I have to send it in for some reason.

I'm a bit of a hoarder. I definitely keep packaging for things. Games (even though I stopped playing years ago), iPod, Gameboy, Palm Pilot, cell phones... You name it, I probably have it, haha. Some people hate me for it :p

I keep the boxes for anything I buy, and I put the receipts in. I do this for 2 reasons: warrantee and reselling. If my item breaks, the company will often ask for an original sales receipt to fulfill the warrantee, knowing full well that most people throw theirs away. Also, if an item of mine outlives its usefulness, I can sell it on eBay as "in original box, with all packaging and paperwork," etc. My OCD-style hoarding has rewarded me on more than one occasion, so I literally have about 25 boxes for small consumer items with the receipts tucked in. Fortunately I have plenty of space.

I keep all my packaging, it increases the value of the player when it comes to resale.

I used to keep boxes for just about everything I purchased, and then a couple of years ago it started to occur to me how cluttered my life was getting (30+ years of boxes for a guy who is a compulsive gadget shopper can amount to quite a bit :) )

At that point, I began to expunge my packaging collection by tossing out any packaging for lower value items (like video games, and other minor software packages).

I still tend to keep the boxes for my more expensive hardware-type items. The main reason for me is the ability to resell those items at some point.

Besides, the iPod box is just a work of art when it comes to product packaging....

I keep all my packaging for pretty much everything I buy that's worth $50 or over... I still have all my videogame boxes for my game systems / computer, I have all the boxes for my various Macs, my iPod box, etc. I enjoy having the box as well as the actual item, as it feels more complete :)

I still have my iBook and my iPod Mini box. When you have an object as beautiful as say the abovementioned than obviously you'd keep their beautiful boxes. As a rule of thumb, I generally keep my mobile phone boxes too just in case I need them for trade in or as such. But more often than not, the Apple boxes and the Sigames (Championship Mananger, Football Manager) game boxes are the only ones that I keep.

I keep all of my electronic/computer moxes for when I move. Easier to carry. Things are safer in their original boxes. Good thing for basements.
