I cant sample songs before buying

Ive tried and tried but nothing has solved the 'spinning circle' which engages when you double click on the 'play arrow' for sampling a song selection. If it is of consequence, Ive deciphered a small window that flashes ever-so-briefly upon that double click, It reads: "opening URL // connecting " with a button that reads 'STOP' What's going on here ? Much appreciate your help

You don't need to double click, you need to single click the play button. Hopefully if you single click that would help keep iTunes from locking up.

Other possibilities:
  • Old iTunes version (XP version or others) - upgrade iTunes.
  • Slow internet connection - upgrade or reduce applications and devices using the network, don't use hotspots.
  • Bad Domain Name Service (DNS) - Update the router to use a different DNS than your ISP provides like OpenDNS, CloudFlare (1.1.1.1) or Google (8.8.8.8) as some ISPs have slow or incomplete DNS services.
  • Slow computer - upgrade or reduce applications running on it, check for malware slowing it down and remove it.
  • Multiple virus scanners - Windows Defender is enough protection (assuming Windows 10) no need for others to be running too. Uninstall 3rd party virus scanners.
  • Old operating system - It is time to retire Windows 7 as upgrades for security stops in January 2020. Windows XP should be buried by now. There are probably old MacOS versions that shouldn't be used anymore too. As they age the become less able to support multiple tasks at the same time.
