Well, it didn't take long for me to want to brush the iPod. If you look on the back of a normal iPod you will see many many many.......... need I say more? MANY scratches and the worse FINGERPRINTS.
I got my nano for Christmas and it's not even new years yet and I actually did this. I am very particular so it is a wonder I did this. I just knew it couldn't look any worse then fingerprints on it.
It took about an hour after preparation, scrubbing and adjusting the iPod to the best position. Here is a website on how to do it made by Adam here it iLounge http://members.optusnet.com.au/brushedipod/. I didn't think that the instructions were clear, so I will put my version up for you.
1. Put the iPod in a secure place where it won't move around (I put it in the iPod box that it came in, look at the pic of the box it got brushed too)
2. Put tape (clear packaging tape) on places you don't want it to be brushed. Make sure you have all the edges of the tape smooth (I made this mistake, not noticeable except to the brusher). You can make designs if you are good at cutting tape (pretty hard to do, I spent a good 20 minutes for what I taped)
3. Put a book, box or something to guide your sponge in a straight line next to it (maybe off set an inch so you can brush the whole iPod)
4. Use a scotch brite sponge (see first pic) and rub for a minute then look at the progress. It should look pretty good. Do it for a one more minute and then your finished with the back (you can do it more if you wish, if you do it too much it will scratch the words off like the serial number and Apple).
5. Next put tape (regular scotch tape will do fine or electrical tape) on the plastic edge you want to do next (leave the metal part bare) and put toilet paper on the excess tape so it doesn't go on the front face.
For the sides and back I put the iPod in the middle of a book (not a hard cased one) and then laid it on the table with the iPod sticking out evenly.
Remember for the back and sides you want to go up and down. For the top and bottom (bottom not necessary for the nano) go from side to side. Start rubbing for 30 sec to a minute. It won't take as long as the back unless you want it too.
That's it just five steps. Look at this forum for some more insight http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14723 I looked through 15 pages or so. I should have everything here that they do.
