Well, it didn't take long for me to want to brush the iPod. If you look on the back of a normal iPod you will see many many many.......... need I say more? MANY scratches and the worse FINGERPRINTS.

I got my nano for Christmas and it's not even new years yet and I actually did this:D. I am very particular so it is a wonder I did this. I just knew it couldn't look any worse then fingerprints on it.

It took about an hour after preparation, scrubbing and adjusting the iPod to the best position. Here is a website on how to do it made by Adam here it iLounge http://members.optusnet.com.au/brushedipod/. I didn't think that the instructions were clear, so I will put my version up for you.

1. Put the iPod in a secure place where it won't move around (I put it in the iPod box that it came in, look at the pic of the box it got brushed too:()

2. Put tape (clear packaging tape) on places you don't want it to be brushed. Make sure you have all the edges of the tape smooth (I made this mistake, not noticeable except to the brusher). You can make designs if you are good at cutting tape (pretty hard to do, I spent a good 20 minutes for what I taped)

3. Put a book, box or something to guide your sponge in a straight line next to it (maybe off set an inch so you can brush the whole iPod)

4. Use a scotch brite sponge (see first pic) and rub for a minute then look at the progress. It should look pretty good. Do it for a one more minute and then your finished with the back (you can do it more if you wish, if you do it too much it will scratch the words off like the serial number and Apple).

5. Next put tape (regular scotch tape will do fine or electrical tape) on the plastic edge you want to do next (leave the metal part bare) and put toilet paper on the excess tape so it doesn't go on the front face.
For the sides and back I put the iPod in the middle of a book (not a hard cased one) and then laid it on the table with the iPod sticking out evenly.
Remember for the back and sides you want to go up and down. For the top and bottom (bottom not necessary for the nano) go from side to side. Start rubbing for 30 sec to a minute. It won't take as long as the back unless you want it too.

That's it just five steps. Look at this forum for some more insight http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14723 I looked through 15 pages or so. I should have everything here that they do.

pretty nice, much better brushing. than a guy a while back. His looked mirrored still. However i like your's much better. I think you should've done it without the tape on though. and don't do too much where the engraving would come off. the tape jagged edge thing would annoy me. all in all nice tutorial and great pics.

Ohh jeez. I better cover the serial number up before someone evil sees the pic and does something. I dont' know what they could do But I think I'm gonna mask it off with a photo editor.
Thank you for all your comments. Once again I'll do it for someone else too. It is a safe process.

The unbrushed part is off center. I mean if you are going to go thru all this setup, follow thru, finally posting pictures for us wouldn't it be good to showcase some quality?

I'm sorry, try cutting some tape with a pair of scissors. It took me about 20 minutes.
If I would do it again (and I definently will). I would take an hour and make a perfect one. Or I could just not do it at all.

Ehhh, am I the only one who doesn't like it? Haha, it's a great tutorial, but the style isn't for me. I like what came on my baby. :)

It's nice having the mirrored finish, but don't forget the scracthes and fingerprints. I would have left mine mirrored if it wasn't for that.
It was worth the "risk" of not knowing what was ahead.

How are you supposed to cut the tape for designs?

Are you supposed to place it directly on the ipod and cut?

Is it safe to use contact paper since it has a backing on it? then you can jsut make the design, peel it off the backing and stick it on the ipod..?

Do Not Cut On Your iPod! What I did was use a cutting thing that cuts things straght with a blade on a lever and Scissors.
And yes, just cut your design and put it on the ipod. If you want you can take a measurement of the ipod and put the outline of it on your tape. Then you can see how big to make your design

it may be just me but i think that guy a while backs looked better because it didnt have the tape. I still think they should let you pick to buy it brushed or mirrored when you buy it.

I'm thinking about rebrushing it because your right. Except maybe retape the apple logo so it's straight. That's the nice thing about this brush thing, you mess up and you just do it again.
