have apple ipod - need to use windows

I have received an apple ipod from a friend and he has loaded about 1500 songs on it from CD collection - he uses an apple iMac - How do I go about using itunes on a windows based computer that has my stuff on it without losing his stuff?

The easy thing to do is get your friend to set the iPod on "manually manage songs" (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61131) for you and you can use EphPod since the iPod will not auto sync with it. Do not use iTunes or you will lose all of your songs.
