• Please note that signatures and avatars on iLounge are only available after reaching certain membership thresholds.

    Signatures

In order to be able to have a signature, users must have been a member for 7 days and have accumulated 10 posts.

    Avatars

Avatars are reserved for only the most senior of iLounge forum members. Users will not be able to use an avatar until they have been a member for a minimum of one year, and accumulated 1,500 posts. This is considered the Veteran Lounger level of membership.

    A note on post whoring...

We welcome and encourage our members to make valuable and useful contributions to the iLounge forums, and to have fun, socialize, and actively participate in discussions on the forums. However, as per the Forum Policy, we will not tolerate excessive and unnecessary posting. Posting inane and pointless messages solely to increase one's post count in the hopes of reaching a higher membership level will be dealt with by the forum staff. Unnecessary posts may be subject to removal, and persisting in this behaviour will result in post counts being reduced and any further action being taken as deemed necessary.

  • With the number of recent threads from brand new users that we have observed in our Classifieds forum selling goods under questionable circumstances, we have instituted a new policy restricting new members of iLounge from posting new threads in the Classifieds forum until they have reached "Regular Member" status.

New users become Regular Members once they have made 10 posts and been a member of the iLounge Forums for at least 7 days. Prior to this time, members may still read the Classifieds forum, and even respond to existing threads for items being sold by other members, but they may not create new threads advertising their own items for sale.

This will hopefully help to protect our user community by discouraging fraudulent users from signing up and posting classified ads without having at least a very basic level of established membership in our forums.

Obviously all users should still exercise due diligence when making use of our classifieds forums, but we hope that this restriction will help to decrease the number of blatantly fraudulent ads that we have been seeing in recent weeks.

Please be sure to review our Classified Forum Policy for more information.

Enjoying the new look here, still getting used to where everything is (and coming to terms with being a "discontinued" lounger.) My favorite feature of the new forum style is that I am now actually receiving notifications of posts to subscribed threads, for the first time. Thanks for whatever was done to make this feature work... :)

Image Problem: Will not place image in post from iLounge attachment

Some of my guide posts in Books and Spoken word, Especially the FAQs, make use of image attachments in other posts.

For example

This link

http://forums.ilounge.com/attachment.php?s=&postid=888952.jpg

will open the image in a separate window.

This link (without the spaces)

[ IMG]http://forums.ilounge.com/attachment.php?s=&postid=888952.jpg[ /IMG]

results in this (no image, just a link to the image):

images from non-iLounge sources show up in posts.

What gives?

Edit: these don't work either

this

Robert:

From what I've read on the vBulletin Forums:

It has to do with the order with which vBulletin parses a post's input... Attachments aren't available outside the post they were created in.

In a few days, I can look into fixing it with some sort of hack, but I'm not sure it'd see much use outside your FAQs -- Most members use ImageShack or some other external server for free image hosting.

Well, they WERE available before the new forum look unless my memory fails me completely. I think that until the update, the images were appearing in the post but I haven't looked at the posts for a while. The images are being hosted at iLounge at the links as in posts above. Of course, I could post the images elsewhere as I have some others of them, but that is a lot of work down the tube to go back and create a new image.

That would sure be nice. Seems a real waste and shame to have images hosted on iLounge server and unable to access them except in the original post or via link.

Thanks,

Robert
BTW, I tried to post the attachment above into ImageShack, but they do not allow php. Getting easier to think about posting in a free blog and linking from iLounge. The blogs are much easier with images.

ImageShack of image hosted on google webblog:

But ImageShack prefers that one use this thumbnail:

or, if I had time to go thru the thread one by one, I could create an image on my blog directly like this one:

Don't send post contents on Subscribed thread post notifications.

Suggest that you not send out content of post with notification of new post on subscribed thread.

It frequently takes me several tries to get things right on a complicated post, so the notified member does not see the quick edits made.

Apple Discussion once sent out the post contents, but stopped doing that a while back.

Besides, it reduces your ad click count potential. *G*

Just a thought.

Robert.

Its funny that so many people mention using a "better browser" like Firefox....I use Firefox almost exclusively and this 'upgrade' is just miserable. It took me three tries to just get to this thread to open (usually I can get there in one or two, though). Posting works about 1 time in 10. Most of the time it just sits there after I post...if I give it a few minutes, its probably posted...so I can try to hit post again, and if I've waited long enough it'll give me a warning about a double post (sometimes it still double-posts, and i have to delete them).

This is on two different systems, on two different networks.

The last time I posted a quick reply, it posted it and came right back like its supposed to..it was a bit of a shock!

Firefox 1.5.0.3 never had a single problem like yours. On any of my comupters.

Did you try Opera as well?

On a different note, in the Lounge forum when I select "Forum Tools" and go to select "Mark this Forum as Read", part of the drop down menu disappears behind the top right hand side add next to it. Only happens in that forum that I have found though.

I've only tried this in Safari...

While I do have to use IE at work for email, I use FF for all other internet browsing, and I have NO problems with this forum. Well except for the format of the image tags :)

Still Having Ad overlap in PM's

No longer having ad overlap in forums, but the ads are covering part of messages and blocking access to deleting any messages in Private Messages.

I still have a minor gripe about marking forums 'read'.

Prior to the upgrade, sub-sections would still remain unread, while the parent forum would become read like instructed.

However the new system marks forums and their subsections read with a click of a button. The older method is much easier to use.

I was just wondering whether this is a change or something that hasn't been looked at yet?

Cool addition to r click post number to get post ID

Thanks for the post number and ability to r click it to get the postid so that can simply copy the post number and simply put into vb code:

[post]postid[/post] or
[post=postid]value[/post]

That is, postid 201253 can be entered as:
[ post=201253]here[/post] (without the space) and show as:
here

If I ever get around to it, that will free up a lot of character count on my guides.
