Is the apple watch default applications the best ones out there since its from apple? Or is other fitness apps on the app store like running apps better?

My mate told me the default apps from Apple are the best. Does any techy guy know more information on this subject?

I am not much of a runner, but I hike and swim. I see other apps out there, but have stuck with the Apple apps as they are good enough.

There are probably better apps out there (Apple Open Swim seems broken as it can't determine distance or pace or even a path of the swim) but I haven't been annoyed enough to bother installing them (Apple Pool Swim requires you to know the yard length of the pool. Why? It should be able to see when I turn around and tell me how long it is, my personal pool is 32 feet long. If I set 10 yards, it under counts my distance, if I set it to 11 yards, the distance is off by nearly double).

Yeah, I am getting annoyed with Apple's apps. This post may inspire me to try some new ones out.

I looked at a couple swimming apps, and decided based on reviews that the Apple version does as much as the free versions do, and maybe a bit better.

I'm not very tech-savvy, but I do believe that the default Apple Watch fitness apps on the Apple Watch include:

  • Activity: This app tracks your daily activity, including steps taken, calories burned, and distance traveled.
  • Workout: This app tracks your workouts, including running, walking, swimming, and cycling.
  • Heart Rate: This app tracks your heart rate throughout the day.
  • Sleep: This app tracks your sleep patterns.
These apps are all well-designed and easy to use. They also integrate with other Apple apps, such as your iPhone's Health and Activity apps.

Ok then, that's quite interesting, I think I'll just keep to the free Apple watch apps as they seem the best.

I’ve used the Apple Watch apps, and they’re decent for general stuff like tracking workouts and steps. But if you’re looking for more detailed tracking or specific workout plans, there are other apps that might be better.
