Rufus Wainwright
Dead Can Dance

And rain isn't depressing! I like it. :) Even if I'm outside I don't mind a smaill amount.

In fact, one of the most depressing weather events for me is when rain is promised (especially T-storms) and they never arrive.

Heres my list. I have done two versions of what my favorite 5 rain and sun bands were from last year/summer, and then another list of what I think will be my 5 rain and sun bands for this year/summer:

Last Year:

Rain:
Snow Patrol (Final Straw)
Modest Mouse (Good News For People Who Love Bad News, Especially Float On and The World At Large)
Sunhouse (Crazy On The Weekend)
Jeff Buckley (Grace)
Damien Rice (O)

Sun:
Brett Dennen
Coldplay (Parachutes)
Eels (Beautiful Freak)
Fat Freddy's Drop (Hope, Flashback)
Athlete (Vehicles & Animals)

This Year:

Rain:
Radiohead (O.K Computer... What else?)
Peter Doherty (Acousticalullaby)
The Dears (No Cities Left, The Second Part especially)
Eels (Electro-Shock Blues)
Patrick Wolf (Wind In The Wires)

Sun:
Babyshambles (F*** Forever + their forthcoming album)
Bright Eyes (I'm Wide Awake Its Morning)
Bloc Party (Silent Alarm)
Primal Scream (Screamadelica)
Coldplay (X&Y)

Even though rain is classified as sad, i have some happy ones under that list because i would listen to those to cheer me up!

"Early Morning Rain" by Gordon Lightfoot

I have two versions of this song, one is from Eva Cassidy's Imagine album. I don't really let the weather tell me what to listen to, but that's a really nice song.

"Rainy Night" by Brazzaville. Brazzaville is the best. Try some Brazzaville. Not the Swedish band with the same name. David Brown's Brazzaville.

the first song that comes to mind for me when it comes to rain is "no rain" by blind melon (one hit wonder). simply a nice song, imo. i'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned it yet.

It's hard for me to label an artist or band as rainy or sunny; afterall, most cds have a mix of both. That being said, I'll list some songs instead. It's a rather long list, and for that I apologize, but I had a very hard time narrowing it down to this list as it currently stands.

Rainy:
"Rainy Day" by Oleander
"Banana Pancakes" and "Mediocre Bad Guys" by Jack Johnson
"Some Devil" and "Gravedigger" by Dave Matthews
"Captain" and "Crush" and "Stolen Away on 55th and 3rd" by The Dave Matthews Band
"All At Sea" by Jamie Cullum
"Absolutely Zero" by Jason Mraz
"The Scientist" by Coldplay
"All These Things I've Done" by The Killers
"Secret" by Maroon5
"Down Here in Hell" by VanHunt
"The District Sleeps Alone Tonight" by The Postal Service
"In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel
"Fall To Pieces" by Velvet Revolver
"Samba de mon coeur qui bat" by Coralie Clement (French)

Sunny:
"Jerk it Out" by The Caesars
"Sitting Waiting Wishing" by Jack Johnson
"Ocean Breathes Salty" and "The View" by Modest Mouse
"This Love" by Maroon5
"Baba O'Riley" by The Who
"Ants Marching," "So Much To Say," and "I Did It" by The Dave Matthews Band
"Coin-Operated Boy" by The Dresden Dolls
"Wish I" by Jem
"Take Your Mama" by Scissor Sisters
"Pretty Baby" by Vanessa Carlton
"Feel Good, Inc." by Gorillaz
"Au Comptoir" by Debout sur le Zinc (French)

Blind Melon get's thrown into that "one hit" category but they were a great band. Soup is an incredible album! Also, Unified Theory, a later band featuring some of the former Blind Melon members was very cool as well. Their album is definitely worth a listen.
