• With the number of recent threads from brand new users that we have observed in our Classifieds forum selling goods under questionable circumstances, we have instituted a new policy restricting new members of iLounge from posting new threads in the Classifieds forum until they have reached "Regular Member" status.

New users become Regular Members once they have made 10 posts and been a member of the iLounge Forums for at least 7 days. Prior to this time, members may still read the Classifieds forum, and even respond to existing threads for items being sold by other members, but they may not create new threads advertising their own items for sale.

This will hopefully help to protect our user community by discouraging fraudulent users from signing up and posting classified ads without having at least a very basic level of established membership in our forums.

Obviously all users should still exercise due diligence when making use of our classifieds forums, but we hope that this restriction will help to decrease the number of blatantly fraudulent ads that we have been seeing in recent weeks.

Please be sure to review our Classified Forum Policy for more information.

You know how Facebook suggests friends for you? Kristiano Ang was just suggested to me. What the hell? We don't have any mutual Facebook friends, and my screen name here is never mentioned on my Facebook page. The only things that could be seen on both profiles would be my first name, my birthday and with some digging around, my taste in music. Creepy stuff, Facebook, creepy stuff.

Also, nothing personal, Kris, but I'm not going to friend you :p

Ha! Are you both perhaps fans of iLounge on facebook? Are you a friend of another iLounger on facebook that is also friends with Kris? It's very interseting the way they try to connect your with people. Do you have kris's info in your address book and you used they contact updater on facebook to look up friends?

Social networks are scary omnipotent sometimes.

I recently had a similar experience with FB -- a former colleague's girlfriend was suggested as a friend. No mutual friends on FB, don't have her e-mail address or contact info, it was very very random. And spooky...

Hahaha.

I think it's probably via IM contacts. Just saw someone I haven't talked to in years recommended to me as a Facebook contact.

A guy I went to Jr High with back in 1979 just contacted me as I had popped up on fb as a recommendation. We both listed that we lived in the same town at some point, but had no crossing dates of living there, schools or friends listed.

As it turns out, he lived 40 miles from me.

Somehow, I think this randomness is kind of the point of Social Networking sites.

so glad i don't do farcebook tw*tter or myspace.

when we got broadband in 2000, it was great fun, messenger, groups & chat on XP. fantastic.

the novelty wore off when i realised half the people (the ones i didn't actually know, or never met) were just freaky randoms (here today, gone tomorrow). i can't believe i used to be on it up 'til 1 or 2 in the morning chatting to these people! :shake:...

icq & people 'round the globe asking, "wanna cyber?" "no, i wanna eat my breakfast!"

twitter in particular makes me laugh. are people really that important? i'd like a blog, but only if it's for something genuinely interesting (breathtaking photography, etc..)

nah sorry, phone + email + snail mail for me.

I'm getting annoyed at the 3 friends of yours are fans of sleep" or "friends are fans of music" little apps at the top.

It is strange, but sometimes you can be part of certain group with a lot of members, and they find you and they want to add you as a friend! Otherwise...i dont know...

Facebook is IN, but the way they suggest you friends to add creates an awkward situation many times.
