You shouldn't have turned it on. By turning it on you instantly short circuited it. If you would have waited for the iPod to dry out you might still have a working iPod.

Apple certainly isn't going to replace it. If you still have the option to return it to the store, I would try that. You could just tell them it doesn't work, not getting into specifics, and get your money back, then buy a new one. If that doesn't work your only option is to start saving.

Good luck on getting a new iPod, and sorry to hear about your misfortion.

Something kind of like that happened to me.

your best bet is to call apple up. dont take it in store.

I like apple, so im not suggesting that you "con" them, but

I called tech support, just said my ipod stopped working, and

the rep. was gracious enough to set me up with a replacement :)

I'm wondering that too ... its just a battery and not a huge one and a hard-drive isn't it ???

Couldn't get the link to work so I have found and posted.

Hmmm not sure I can get my head around an "Inquirer" story :D

I'm in Australia and I didn't hear anything about it and I read quite a lot of news though they did quote Sydney Morning Herald.

so did you end up telling apple that it was water damaged or just that it had stopped working? did they replace it under the 90 day war.?
thanks

sweet, thanks. my sister yesterday left an open soda in her purse and while she took a nap soda covered everything in it including her 4 month old ipod. around midnight when she was crying to me on the phone it started to slowly come back to life. everything works now but the backlight so we may have to visit the support site, thanks man
