Different iTunes For Different Countries

Apologies if this has already been...blah blah blah...

I'm an iPod and iTunes user in the UK and was wondering whether there is any way I can log into the USA version of iTunes?

I'm presuming the iTunes store is basically the same everywhere for things like music, but all the other stuff like podcasts seem to be UK-centric so I presume they change this for different markets.

I've got all the free content I want off the UK iTunes and wondered whether I can somehow get on the USA version, and have a look around there.

I'm probably missing something very obvious...

Any ideas anybody?

You can browse other stores without problem (just change country with the "My Store" menu at the bottom of the iTunes Store meny) but only purchase music at the same store where you credit card is located in.
Iow, podcasts are not a problem but protected music is.
