To be fair, the original post in this thread is about the fifth-generation iPod, and we've now moved past that tot he iPod classic (or sixth-generation).

If you purchase the Apple Composite AV Cable for the new iPod models (around $50 US), this will enable the video out capabilities and you can connect the other end into the cables that came with your Video-55. It's a wired solution and therefore not nearly as efficient, but it does work. Alternatively, you could also pick up the 2005 model of the iPod Universal Dock, which provides an S-Video output and video output through the Line-Out jack. These are also compatible with the new iPod models, and you might be able to find one on eBay for much less than the price of the Composite AV Cables. Just make sure you get the 2005 Universal Dock and not the 2007 one, as the newer one does not provide any video output capabilities by itself. You can differentiate the two docks by the remote port on the front -- the 2005 dock has a round remote port, whereas the 2007 one has more of a rectangular slit. The 2007 model also does not have the S-Video connector on the back.

Lastly, if you do have a video accessory that will enable the video output, you can start the output by connecting the accessory when prompted, and then while the video is still playing, transfer the iPod into your Video-55. It's a cumbersome workaround, but it will work also, since the iPod just needs an "authenticated" video accessory to start video playback.

another addition:

the Pioneer AVIC-D3 in dash Car navigation system.

Ipod 5, and 5.5 work fully with video / audio with no hickups.
Ipod Classic / Nano / Touch work only with audio and no video.

due to the new ipod's video restriction and not the device

What is Ipods "New Video Restrictions"

What are these new restrictions for video out and why is the bigger question?
