    Signatures

In order to be able to have a signature, users must have been a member for 7 days and have accumulated 10 posts.

    Avatars

Avatars are reserved for only the most senior of iLounge forum members. Users will not be able to use an avatar until they have been a member for a minimum of one year, and accumulated 1,500 posts. This is considered the Veteran Lounger level of membership.

    A note on post whoring...

We welcome and encourage our members to make valuable and useful contributions to the iLounge forums, and to have fun, socialize, and actively participate in discussions on the forums. However, as per the Forum Policy, we will not tolerate excessive and unnecessary posting. Posting inane and pointless messages solely to increase one's post count in the hopes of reaching a higher membership level will be dealt with by the forum staff. Unnecessary posts may be subject to removal, and persisting in this behaviour will result in post counts being reduced and any further action being taken as deemed necessary.

  • With the number of recent threads from brand new users that we have observed in our Classifieds forum selling goods under questionable circumstances, we have instituted a new policy restricting new members of iLounge from posting new threads in the Classifieds forum until they have reached "Regular Member" status.

New users become Regular Members once they have made 10 posts and been a member of the iLounge Forums for at least 7 days. Prior to this time, members may still read the Classifieds forum, and even respond to existing threads for items being sold by other members, but they may not create new threads advertising their own items for sale.

This will hopefully help to protect our user community by discouraging fraudulent users from signing up and posting classified ads without having at least a very basic level of established membership in our forums.

Obviously all users should still exercise due diligence when making use of our classifieds forums, but we hope that this restriction will help to decrease the number of blatantly fraudulent ads that we have been seeing in recent weeks.

Please be sure to review our Classified Forum Policy for more information.

I recently finished a very good debate with br-, and I must say it fired me up. Sadly, I'm losing in the poll to decide who won. I guess less people see my point. Oh well, no worries. I enjoyed the experience immensely. br- proved to be quite a good debater, although as with all debates, points get repeated if it goes on too long.
What I'm proposing, and this is kind of pie-in-the-sky, I realize, is a debate section on the site. A seperate forum that allows users to have a civil, organized debate. Someone could introduce a point, and if someone opposes, a debate can begin. For example, I could say something like, "I think, overall, the iPod 4G is a worse purchase than the 3G." Someone who wants to step up could oppose me on the subject. The standard debate format would be followed: Introduction, rebuttal, closing argument. No more than that. At the end, people could vote via a connected poll thread (this may be impractical as it will cause another thread to tie up the boards) or simply by voting within the debate thread. Maybe it could even be judged by 3 moderators. I don't know. I'm just propsing an idea.
Anyway, as I said, I realize it's pretty much a wild suggestion that is hard to take seriously. I just thought I'd toss the idea out in the open. The reason I suggest it is that I feel passionate enough about Mac/iTunes/iPod/etc. to debate about them. And I know other people do, too, or else what would the be doing at a website especially for the iPod? So, at least consider it. I know that it wouldn't be easy or anything to put it together, but it could really be fun and interesting. Thanks!

Hey, I don't mind the idea at all. Lots of people want to debate the merits of one player versus another. The only problem I see with it is that the General forum in the regular iPod section wouldn't have as much reason to exist.

It would be more organized; baiscally created specifically for debating. The general forum is just where people put threads when it won't go anywhere else.

Ha. Maybe that's it.
No, I really do love arguing, even if it's orderly. I would have a ton of fun with a debate forum.
I'm satisfied with Bose products and proud of it!

Joshdude- I think this could be a good idea but with a slightly different set-up.

I'm interested in seeing some structured debate because it could provide a good learning resource. A debate on one case vs. another, for example, could be used to point newbies to. Like a comparison review.

Because there will probably be a wide variety of topics covered, I would rather see the debate adding to the proper forum. [Case debate in the cases forum...] Because of this, we won't be creating specific forums for debates. They will have to remain loose in their proper forums. Each debate could have the title Debate: Name of Debate, so they can be seen amongst the other threads. [And searched on easily]

Could you draft up some guidelines? I'm thinking a general structure laid out- point, counter-point, rebuttals, conclusions, etc. Keep it short and simple. I would also suggest that for each debate a third member acts as moderator. They set it up and can inform the forum Mods/Admins if they need help with something that gets out of control. At the end, its probably a good idea to lock the debate and then open the poll.

PM me with some guidelines for our review. Thanks.

Joshdude, apparently I'm to stoopid or to lazy to find the thread in question. Can you post or PM me a link and that of the poll...
