Hello all,

I have a 3rd generation nano, new. I was creating playlists on my pc with itunes and noticed that I couldn't get an order for the songs to be played in. The only options I see on the Nano are artist, genre, and the iTunes program seems to put the songs in alphabetical order automatically.

Is there a way to change the order the songs are played in a playlist other than mentioned above? I want to put the songs in an order that isn't alphabetical or by artist or genre.

Thanks in advance.

God bless,
Tamar

I believe you can drag the songs into the order you with--but you have to have SHUFFLE turned OFF.

You can drag songs to the order you want, but as mentioned (with a couple steps that were missing):

1- In iTunes, make sure shuffle is turned OFF.

2- Click on the header over the song numbers (left-most column)

3- Drag the songs to the position desired.

4- When you're done, right-click on the playlist name and select "Copy to play order" to keep the new order permanent.

Thanks, Update still need help....

Thanks all for the replies. I am still having some issues.

OK, I turned shuffle off in iTunes.

First, I used an "on the go" list that was empty and put songs in it then tried to put back songs in my 'driving folder' in the order I wanted, but when I put the songs in, after about the 8th or 9th song, the order started to change on it's own. Suggestions appreciated.

Second, "click the header over the song order" I don't see any headers. I am in the iPod section of iTunes, and in the particular playlist, and only see a number, then a song. Please help.

Note: I did see the "copy to playlist order" selection and clicked on that for the amount I could get in my own order, but am still having the issues above with this, though 1/2 way there.

Thanks again.

You don't need an On The Go playlist to do this. Go to the playlist you want to change the order of (either a playlist in iTunes or on your manually-managed Nano) and follow the steps I outlined above.

You seem confused about step #2 ("Click on the header over the song numbers") This is the (blank) box that is at the top of the song number column, immediately to the left of "Name" which sits above all the song names. Click this empty box and you'll see a little arrow appear in it. At that point you'll be able to click and drag songs to any order you like. Do NOT click on any other column headers -- keep it so that the arrow remains in the empty box above all the song numbers while you drag and drop songs to the new order. Once you're done, then select "Copy to play order" and re-sync your Nano if it is on auto-sync.

Hi there!

It is Dec. 2008 but I had to write and tell you I tried your suggestion and it went fine. At first I didn't know what you were talking about, now I see the box above all the numbers, clicked it and then was able to move songs around the way I like. Thank you so much.

Happy holidays.

I too had the same problem. I just tried this now and it works brilliantly.
Thanks very much rockmyplimsoul!
