iTune is giving me an error message: "Can't save iTunes library file. An unknown error has occurred: number 48."

What does this mean? What should I do? I had backed up my iTunes files this morning--copied them over to a portable HD; but I didn't change, move or alter the files.

Are the directories or the iTunes library files marked read only?

I get that notice sometimes too. I ignore it, and everything seems fine. iTunes DOES save my library, even though it sometimes says it can't.

I get this about 1 out of every 10 times I open iTunes. (Windows XP and iTunes 7.4.2) Never saw this warning with any previous version. I hope nothing is really wrong.

I've just updated to the latest version also. When I opened iTunes this evening, I didn't get the error message, so I hope that, as you say, all will be fine.
