This is pretty well the first year I've carefully followed the albums being released in any current year, as well as going out and obtaining the albums. The reason for this would be because of my recent "change" in listening to newer, modern albums. I feel it has been a decent year so far, not particularly strong, but there have been a decent amount of good albums.

What do you feel are the best albums of 2005 so far, perhaps we can create a "Best Albums of 2005 according to iPodlounge" list?

Here's mine:

Sleater-Kinney - The Woods
Beck - Guero
LCD Soundsystem - LCD Soundsystem
Low - The Great Destroyer

I've also heard good things regarding Antony and the Johonson's I'm a Bird Now. I'll probably check that out tomorrow.

Post your favourites..

For me:

John Legend - Get Lifted (released just after New Year's Day in this country)
Arcade Fire - Funeral
Bloc Party - Silent Alarm

It's a shame really because 2004 was such a good year!

Well, things get released, then re-released. I know that this country suffers with release dates as we come second in terms of promoting the music, to N. America. Amazon has Funeral as a 2005 release, so that's why I included it. I'm willing to remove it if necessary though :)

It was released (in North America at least) on September 14, 2004. Perhaps it was released in 2005 in the UK though. Good album nonetheless.

The only really good album that i've heard this year has been System Of A Down - Mezmerize. Hopefully we'll be able to add the second half of that double album, Hypnotize, as well when it's released later this year.

2005 is the best year of music. Ever.

Half way into it:

Cog - The New Normal (australian album of the year)
Full Scale - Self Titled
System Of A Down - Mezmerize (and people said they couldn't get any better)
Karnivool - Themata (almost A.A.O.T.Y)
Dredg - Catch Without Arms (quickly becoming my favourite band ever)
Jack Johnson - In Between Dreams (just describes how life should be)
Queens Of The Stoneage - Lullabies To Paralyze
Team Sleep - Self Titled
The Mars Volta - Frances The Mute (very slowly growing on me).

Released June 8, 2004. A very good album, though.

We still can't stop listening to "Tourist", by Athlete released in January (and April in the US). I downloaded it in January, and bought the CDs a few weeks ago. My daughter still listens to it, and its in the CD player about half the time I get in my wife's car.

The other stuff I've enjoyed the most from 2005, you guys probably never heard of.

There are a lof of newer albums I haven't listened to much yet, so the jury is out on stuff like the new White Stripes, NIN, Coldplay, etc.

Of stuff I've listened to much:

Ryan Adams - Cold Roses (among the best things he's ever done)
Mars Volta - Frances the Mute
Green Day - American Idiot

are my favorites

I agree. I'll be surprised if people are listening to these much by the end of the year. But I would have said the same thing about last year's U2 album; it felt equally uninspiring to me but it still sold well all year. Maybe if Coldplay can be featured in an iPod commercial, their CD will have legs.
