Hi there guys. I recently got the new iPod 5G, and have been enjoying listening to it. However though, I can't get videos onto it through iTunes 6. I recently purchased Quicktime Pro 7, and through it, i made a file of mine - a .mov file (18.3 mbs) - into a .mv4 through the export function in Quicktime. However though, I can't transfer this file into iTunes or even open it in Quicktime! This is really buggin me because I want to watch something on my iPod and this is restricting me. I have tried almost everything, and the only thing i get is an error on Quicktime which says : "Error -2048: the file is not a movie file". Help would be greatly appreciated... Thanks in advance!

I got my links from this Apple source:

apple.com/quicktime/tutorials/creatingvideo.html

Also the bit at the end states that:

"By following the steps in this tutorial, QuickTime 7 Pro will automatically create an .m4v file containing H.264 video and AAC audio that is optimized for iPod. iPod can play the following video formats:

* H.264 video
File formats: .m4v, .mp4 and .mov
Video: Up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3
Audio: AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 KHz, stereo audio
* MPEG-4 video
File formats: .m4v, .mp4 and .mov
Video: Up to 2.5 Mbps, 480 x 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile
Audio: AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 KHz, stereo audio"

Any help guys?

Aslong as you get the settings right, you can use quite a few different programs for this, as Quicktime is ### tbh.

Nero Recode, Videora and Pocket DVD have worked very well for me so far.

Ok thanks, but if i use videora will i be able to get the .m4v file onto my ipod then, through iTunes? At the moment I cant play the .m4v file in Quicktime, nor does it enter my library in iTunes when I add it or drag and drop it.

Oh, I've sorted it out now. Videora makes bettter quality mv4 than Quicktime pro does. I think Quicktime must have made a corrupt version. SO basically, for everyone who had this problem - Use Videora!! Thanks again guys!

videora ipod converter> quicktime pro.
If your on the Macintosh side of the spectrum, iSquint is an amazingly fast and great program. It converts files in real time (Sometimes faster). It automatically adds videos to the iTunes library if you have trouble as well.

Yes, Videora is the ticket. I recently purchased Revenge of the Sith on DVD and used DVD Decrypter to transfer the contents to my computer. After that I used Videora to encode the video. I just watched it on my Vipod and it's just as cool as can be. I got the instructions on another site but here they are:

"OK. When you launch DVD Decrypter first make sure you are in IFO mode. In the input box, Top section, you will see a number of VTS_XX listings where XX is a number like 01, 02, 03..... Under that VTS listing is a PGC X [hh:mm:ss] where X is again the program number like 1. The software should select the largest/longest one for you. Right click on the PGC that is selected by the software and you will find a submenu. The last item in this submenu is file splitting. Selected NONE.

Now, go over to the Stream Processing Box (tab box right next to the input tab). Make sure to check the "Enable Stream Processing" box and then select the video and main audio track. I then unselect the other audio tracks and subtitle tracks. Below this window is an option to "Direct Stream Copy, Demux, and Raw. Select "Direct Stream Copy".

DVD Decrypter will provide a number of output files but the only one you should care about is the VOB file. It will be the largest. This VOB file is the one that will be the input to convent to MPEG 4.

If after you perform the DVD Rip you find you have many VOB files (and they are similar in size) then you did not select the file splitting option correctly. Review the first paragraph and try again.

You can also select to have no file splitting under TOOLS - SETTINGS - IFO Tab, Under the Options box. The option is a drop down selection. If you use this setting I would exit and restart the app before performing the rip."

P.S. - You'd want to use Videora after performing the above with DVD Decrypter.

Good Luck!
