I have my Apple TV 4 patched through my Onkyo TX-NR626 via HDMI. The receiver is the hub to my Samsung SmarTV. Every once in a while the music cuts out and I see a box in the upper left corner that says HDMI1/DVI. When it disappears, the music starts again.

Seems to me it is some sort of lookup or check. Irritating.

Any ideas of how to fix this?

Onkyo had issues with their HDMI ports on several models. They acknowledged the issue as was fixing it even out of warranty (I own a TX-NR717 without the issue, but I hung out on their boards answering questions until their password rotation policy was enabled).

Your is not exhibiting the typical behavior reported by other users, but it could be a precursor to the actual issue. First thing to do is check for a firmware update. Install that if there is one. If you are up to date, then perform a factory reset of the Onkyo, then re-set up your system and see if that helps.

If that does not work, I would contact Onkyo support about it.

Thanks!

I checked and my firmware is up to date.

I took the opportunity to change out the hdmi cable, changed to a different hdmi port and did an Apple TV OS update. So far so good. Seems to have stopped the stuttering I was having with Apple Music.

Thanks for the insight.
