5G 60GB iPod destroys right earphone

I had the same problem with my 5G 60gb iPod, only with the left one. I just went and got new earbuds from the local apple dealer, and now the right one is starting now!!! Any suggestions on what we can do?

Has anybody tried using these "damaged" earbuds in another media device? Maybe the iPod is just "rejecting" most earphones for some reason, and the earphones might still be useful in other CD players or the like.

I have. They didn't work. Same exact thing. Tried them on my G5 and my other iPod. All other headphones worked fine on the Shuffle that damaged the headphones and all other devices as well.

If this is happening to multiple 3rd party earbuds, non-cheapo ones, and to multiple people, I'll put some weight to it. Otherwise, it's just cheap apple earbuds dieing. Believe me, they go through a ton of replacements. And they've found the most often cause for issues with earbuds to be earwax in the buds. Clean your ears ya'll.

mine were crackling i think on this past thursday, but they've been fine eversince. We'll see it happens again.

i know the problem isnt the headhones but anyways... since they're taking all the accessories out of the box (power adapter, firewire cable, dock) they should at least include some premium headphones. I love he apple design (prolly one of the few who actually like them) i just wish they were higher quality. i wonder if bose make some nice, sleek (and hopefully white) earbuds.

To those who are complaining about stock buds and listended at +80% vol:

The stock buds are cheap and crummy. Feel free to burn them out and get new ones. But dont be surprised when it happens (as well as any <$25-$30 pair of earbuds). I am curious about the peoples whose Shure and Sony Fontopia (etc) buds blew out though. When I had my 4G I could go 100% vol no problem (not reccomended as it makes you deaf). They are still running strong to this day (minus some lost silicon sizes). I think that there might be an issue but right now Im seeing to many poeple complaining about the buds fizzling out when its their own fault for listening to music at deafening levels 50-60% should be plenty.

Also I reccomend turing off auto level and using a program like MP3Gain (free) to equalize the volume of all your music.

I think the TV out wrecking the buds theory is the most probable far, but dont bother saying your stock earbud (left or right) blew after you were listening to it @ high volumes.

Nevertheless this will be really interesting to see what develops.

Errr, come to think of it too, I'm having the same problem. It occured for the first time 1 week ago. They're not cheap headphones, there Shure E2C.

How do you get new headphones from Apple? Do you just call them and tell them they blew out?

there is a wensite to get service for your ipod...if you describe that the ipod is killing all of your headphones, they will replace it...also use that site to get free replacement earbuds

This is frightening, what volume levels do you all listen at?

I mean, I can see why the things would burn out if you were blasting your ears off but I think it's kind of scary if you guys are listening at only 50% of the volume or less..

This is scary, I don't like it at all. Just need enough people and some proof for a law suit. Although I'm not to sueing type.

I'm gonna risk it and keep using my Ety ER-4P's with my 5G iPod though. They have 2 years on their warranty.

As I mentioned on one of the Head-Fi threads, I'm assuming that those of you reporting this problem are using the headphone-out jack as opposed to the line-out through a SiK or Pocket Dock. True or not?

Actually, it's a huge number, when you consider the obvious:

This is out of the tiny number of people who researched it, who even know this Web site exists, and who found THIS thread on THIS Web site. You've already eliminated a good 99.9999 percent of iPod owners, many of whom barely understand how to use the device let alone troll iPod fan sites.

And to top that off, almost everyone will assume it's their headphones, and the blame will never make it back to where it belongs: the iPod itself.

So now reflect on how few people will ever figure it out.

And Apple is sure to capitalize on that, just as they've avoided doing anything about the song-skipping problem that has plagued every full-sized iPod since day 1.

This happened to me last night. I stopped listening to it because I was watching a movie, but after the movie was over and I listened to it, it turned out fine. I hope it doesn't happen again.
